This guy had a below average game in both games he played so far. Dont see the attraction.

Yes, the Raptors keep that pick. It's all about where they actually select, not where they are slotted before the NBA Draft Lottery.

No....unless you had previously thought that the initial slot of the pick determined its owner. So it might be less attractive to you but for the Rockets the pick is a chance to grab at something higher than a Kyle Lowry.

As we see, picks don't get injured or angry about playing time,and this particular pick created the opportunity for us to snag Lin (who has more upside) and tank.

Not sure I understand the question, but the Rockets were never going to get a COMPLETELY unprotected pick from a team as bad as the Raptors, even for their best trade chip (Lowry).

That said, the protection is very little, and the pick will still carry over to the following year if the Raptors either win the lottery (top-3 pick) or make the playoffs (15-30) this season.

This pick was about as good as you'll ever see traded for a non-superstar. And any pick that's potentially better (e.g., the unprotected 2012 MIN pick that the Clippers traded for Chris Paul) will become very, very rare going forward as teams learn how to better configure their pick protections in trades.

If we consider Lowry and Lin equal in value, Lowry a better player now and Lin with higher potential, in actuality, Morey got us a valuable first round for absolutely FREE this offseason!

 

We (Les) didn't spend that much, dude was a second round pick. More money was probably spent on scouts tracking his progress and Morey's vacations where he would go "scouting" him.
