Imo, it would be foolish to send Royce to the D-league,considering his condition. He missed a week of training camp so he will just have to make that up on the fly. The Rockets will figure it out.

I agree, but I also think he will still spend time in the D-League because of this. Not that he doesn't have the talent, but because he will struggle to find minutes in the rotation. Even in Summer League against sub par competition, the first few games you could see that the NBA game would be an adjustment for Royce on the court. Towards the end of Sl, he really started to make an impact, but in the NBA that adjustment will take much longer than it did in SL. I still think he has the talent to really be a gifted player in the league, but on the court and the off the court I can see that its going to take some time for Royce to transition to life in the NBA. Still Im really rooting for the kid in more ways than one.
Do you even know why you are not??? Everyone who has been around the team (Friedman, Feigan, and I believe even Clutch himself) has said that he's head and shoulders above any of the other post players right now. Until Kevin Love walks in the doors of the TC to suit up for the Rockets, I dont see anyone on this roster who deserves minutes over Patterson at this point. Plus, if you want him gone so freaking bad, how do you think he's going to get moved??? Are they supposed to eat his contract for nothing, or maybe its a better option to wait for a decent trade proposal to come along when Patrick is actually playing at a higher level then he did last year mostly because of injuries. If another player on this roster is that good, they will make the decision very easy for McHale. Until then, just shut up about wanting Patterson gone.
Personally I don't think the Rockets would have conceded as such for a player that they just want to ship to the D-League. I do think that they believe he will play rotation minutes. I think they will give him a shot and if he proves that his play is subpar then they will re-consider. That is just my take on the situation I could be wrong.

Missing camp will hurt his chances at rotation minutes. He can still come in this week and really make the decision easy for McHale will excellent play, but we've already seen that despite his talents, its most likely just going to take some time for him to get his game acclimated on the court. I dont think the Rockets would have drafted anyone if they thought they would have to spend their entire career in the D-League, but they are the one team that believes heavily in using it if that player isn't currently getting heavy rotation minutes in the major leagues. Since Royce is such a unique fit, the logjam at the big spot is so great, the Rockets have used the D-League with other lottery picks before, and he missed camp, I think its safe to say that he's as likely to spend time in the D-league as anyone, and I certainly dont think its the end of the world like most people on Clutchfans believe it is.
I didn't think this before, but after reading that article my guess is the four rookies (Lamb, Royce, Jones and Donatas) get sent to the minors. Gives them all playing time and a chance to develop. I think part of the plan is to let them develop together. In the D league you can build a rotation and strategy around those four and really develop them. Don't try to fit them into what the Vipers (isn't that our team - and we do own them) are doing to create wins, but build the Vipers season around developing these guys. That gives plenty of time to evaluate Patterson and Morris, see how Asik handles starter minutes, showcase Martin, get tot eh fringe of the playoffs, etc. If after a couple of months, one of the rooks is dominating, call them up and put them into the rotation. Otherwise wait til trade/cut/dollar/next year deadline then bring them up as a group. May not be a starting five group, but they will all know how to play off of each other and they will have set rotations and set plays. That is kind of the purpose of the Developmental League.
If serious, where did we get him and what is his history? I know this is asking a lot, but we have so many new players.
In the Courtney Lee sign and trade. In return for Courtney Lee they recieved a Bobcats 2nd round pick(highest quality 2nd round pick you can find), JuJuan Johnson, Etwaun Moore(waived) & Shawn Williams (waived). The Rockets decided to keep Johnson because of his contract status, the fact that he's only going into his second season, and they wanted to see if he can develop over the summer, and preseason before casting judgement. He was a throw in for a trade obviously, but its worth seeing what you got in him if you can. Which they can right now. The Skinny on him- 6'10" athletic, lanky forward who can block shots, but has very little offensive game. Was very good defensively in college but has struggled in his first season with the Celtics to find rotation minutes. This guy most likely wont be a factor going forward unless he takes a gigantic leap forward, but as long as they have rotation spots available, he's worth a look as a big man who can fill that Jordan Hill type of role as a garbage collector type. If you think they are developing him to be the next Kevin Durant then you will be pretty dissapointed. If he's going to earn minutes, he's going to need to be able to do some dirty work this season. The Rockets took on Johnson more or less as a throw in for that Bobcats 2nd rounder. Anything more you get from him is an added bonus.
I think Pat is spot on here. I know we're chomping at the bit to see more of our new players, but the Rockets have proven that they are about putting the team on the floor that gives us the best chance to win. They won't tank to develop players or get a better draft pick. We'll see more Delfino, Ppat, Morris and less Lamb, Royce, Jones, and Donatas. They have to get more seasoned before they can be backups in the NBA.
Even if we are basing off last seasons performance, Patterson gets the start by default. I much rather gives the majority if minutes to Donatas as well for developing purposes.

Parsons earned a full-time starting position as a rookie with a limited training camp. We've lost several veterans at multiple positions, at least one of our five rookies this year should be able to crack the rotation. We're simply not deep enough to keep five players on the RGV roster, especially not to play guys like Morris or Smith.
I dont think anyone in the front office is ready for tank before they have seen what this team can do. There are just way too many unknowns with a new roster full of rookies and sophomores. - Have a best roster by the beginning of the season. - Set the goal for making the playoffs. - At any time of the season when it becomes obvious that playoff is out of reach, trade Kmart, give the rookies as much PT as possible, and tank for the rest of the season.
This thinking continues to poison the GARM. At the end of the day, sports are for entertainment. You turn on the TV, go to the game, root for your team. Now we're acting like we have some personal stake in it, and we get pissed to even consider watching our team comprised of an unprecedented amount of rookies and sophomores win. Wooooo. Go team.
