Things that happened right before the Toronto game: -End of bench player lit up Deron Williams and the Nets to lead an 8-15 Knicks team to first victory out of a losing streak -Player who was in and out of the D-league continues his elite play to lead his team to a victory over the Jazz -Undrafted player in 2010 outplays the 2010 #1 draft pick in a dominant win over the Wizards. -First Harvard player in the NBA since 1954 outscores Kobe F-in Bryant at Madison Square Garden to chants of "MVP" in a victory over the Lakers, a team the Knicks had not beaten in 5 years. -Player who was a week away from being cut leads his team to a nail-biter victory over Rubio, Love and the Timberwolves. -First 5 starts were all Wins. No NBA player in history has ever put up better numbers in their first 5 starts. Not Jordan, not Magic, not Shaq. But no, I'm sure it was just because he was Asian. SMDH.
It was asian heritage night in toronto that game. That + Lin = the frenzy there. No reason actual Raptors fans would have cheered for Lin... (if the Raptors actually have fans?). Please try to stop being so sensitive.
You're pretty sensitive about someone else's sensitivity. I think it was Tyson that remarked that they seemed to be getting more cheers at certain away games, as 1/3 of the crowd was for the Knicks, 1/3 was for the Raptors/Sixers/Wizards etc and 1/3 was for Lin. It's not just because he's Asian. Obviously.
LMFAO 1/3 of the crowd was for the Knicks in Toronto, are you for reals... Yeah just like 1/3 of the crowd that shows up to Houston games are Mavs fans
Unlike the Rockets, the Knicks have fans everywhere in the country. That's a phenomenon that folks living in the backwaters of the NBA just cannot grok.
Yeah maybe everywhere in the US of A. There's no way 1/3 of ACC has or will ever have Knicks fans, a division rival and "Unlike Rockets?", implying Tmac fans and Chinese fans don't show up in different cities just to see Yao and Tmac back in the day. Do you even NBA?
Tyson said it, not me. That Raptors crowd looked more like 70:30 Lin:Raptors fans to me. Raptors suck as an organization, so I don't blame Toronto-ites for their nonsupport. It's not a secret that many away games had a huge Knicks(Lin) contingent such that if you listened to the crowd it'd be hard to tell if they were home or away. WASHINGTON TORONTO BOSTON Considering just 2% of the country is East Asian, I'd say Lin fans are a lot more diverse than just Asian like you seem to believe.
I'm pretty sure that most of Houston is completely, and utterly excited to have Jeremy Lin inn the starting line-up for the upcoming season. But it seems like when a fan, with some actual concrete basketball background attempts to critique Lin, LOFs have to come and nit-pick every single argument, and often fight about semantics or other things that are completely irrelevant. We love our players, and we defend our players when they are unfairly judged, but I would like to think that Lin already has enough spotlight, and doesn't want/doesn't need people needless arguing over the ratio of Lin:Raptor fans at a game last year.
I think some Rox fans from the time of Yao Ming think of Lin as Yao Part II because of the asian connection. But Lin and Linsanity have a much broader appeal than Yao ever did.
What exactly was his "critique"? He said the only reason people cheered for him at Toronto was because he was Asian. Screw that noise.
I don't know what your problem is, i said the only reason the Toronto thing happened is because Lin is a good Asian player, and because of the large population of Asians in Toronto (near 30% btw) they came and cheered for him. Like I said a lot of them aren't even basketball fans, they just came to support a fellow Asian underdog wrecking **** in a non-asian sport, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. You make it sound like it's a bad thing. Plus Lin fans are so sensitive and seem to label anyone that says anything about Lin a hater.
I don't care if you're Asian, Black, White, or a Lakers fan, if you didn't cheer at least a little for that shot going in then I'm sorry for whatever happened in your childhood to make you such a twisted individual. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MsgjtRiAL0E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Everyone in that arena was cheering. Everyone.
This kid is marketing gold. 1. Asian-biggest new market in the NBA 2. Harvard Educated-appeals to the upper crust and companies 3. Humble Christian-relates to the regular middle america type 4. Won a title in California-huge market 5. College ball in Boston-huge market 6. Exploded in New York at the Garden 7. Plays in Houston-large market I can go on about why he appeals to most everyone but as I type this I feel like he is just better at life. SMH:grin:
I haven't seen that court-side fan video before. It's better than broadcast TV, which muted down the noise level in the stadium.
Totally agree. Please, people, there are many videos that show the crowds at Toronto online. Just about the entire crowds stood up before the shot. Most of the Asian crowds that came with Taiwanese flags sat behind the basket on one end, the basket the shot went in. But the entire arena exploded, not just the area where the Asian crowds were. I saw some whites and blacks high-fived. And almost everyone on tape had a smile on his or her face. No one appeared sad that the home team lost. And that includes whites, blacks and Asians. Just like stl1622dc said, it's a magical moment that touched everyone, not just Asians.
The night Lin made the game winning shot in Toronto, it was Asian night ! They didn't planned and that why so many Raptors fans booed at him when he played under Woodson.
Good question. Maybe they didn't give him the Secret Basketball Fan handshake when he tried to initiate it with them? It definitely not just because they were Asian
