D-League is even worse, apparently. While NBA teams take chartered flights, D-League teams fly commercial, where they might have to take several connecting flights to get where they're going: ruh roh
honestly tho, this is a rebuilding team, so why does the rocket need to send anyone to dleague? just let them play even if they suck at first. wnba is more intense than dleague
Playing in the D-League is better than sitting on the bench in the NBA imo. May not be much of an option for Royce after learning about their plane situation though. And please don't knock the D-League like that. Most rec leagues are more intense than the wnba.
so i was boasting about the new rockets with my 13 yr old nephew visiting from New York that thinks he knows it all. so i was listing our weapons, when i got to royce white while mentioning the rookies, he started laughing... i was like- " i heard he was built like lebron, and had maximum potential. and he hit me with a zinger- "at least if Lebron wins any awards, he can fly anywhere to go get it or to mix in some media approval appearances. Royce white will still be stuck in his bus lol.
Actually no one has to go there but only 12 men can suit up and most teams don't want the last men rotting from too much sitting.
I don't think we should panic too much about it now. If this is a problem in a couple of months, then start to panic.
I don't know if you guys have noticed, not only Royce hasn't brought any awareness to mental illness, he actually kind of brought an image of a mental illness patient who skips work, fights random people on Twitter to the general public.
For all that I care you can take chances on hard workers and guys like Chuck Hayes, Landry, the Grant Hills of the league We had Von Wafer, Dorsey, Twill, Morris and now perhaps White Not exactly the hardest of workers, twitter guys Out of that bunch White is not even very athletic. I am not of those who are complaining but stating the obvious. He'll contribute one or the other way.
I am not one who said that the Rockets shouldn't try to make it work. Heck, even if I had no sympathy at all about his situation (which is not true), I'd still want him to work out simply because he's a Rocket player. When I was 21, I didn't sign a contract that would pay me millions of dollars. If I did and if I knew I had mental problem that might hinder me from thinking straight, I sure would hire competent help. Wouldn't you? You are mixing two things, his immaturity and his mental disorder. If it's his mental illness that makes him unable to act responsibly, then I am very pessimistic about his future. If it's his immaturity, being too young, then sure I'd give him some slack and hope he'll wise up. But the window of success is very small in this business. He'd better get his acts together fast.
Should we have seen this coming when we realized Royce already had a publicist? How common is it for a rookie to have a publicist - esp when the season hasn't even started?
He certainly isn't doing much to champion his cause. At this point he's making it almost impossible for a guy with mental issues to get drafted.
I don't give **** about anything else but what he does on the court. If he's great on the court everyone here will shut up. If he sucks then you move on. What did we lose? Another mid round lotto pick? Not like any of the other ones we've turned out to be worth anything. You roll the dice if you want to win big.
