I've never understood why people think Martin has a bad attitude. Its completely overblown. Was it because of him saying something along the lines of "Morey needs to stop treating players like assets"? Was it because of him sitting out most of last year with that labral tear?

He is a fantastic player and very professional IMO.

You know what I think bothered Martin? Having to spend time with his Evil Twin, Courtney Lee, during Lee's contract year.

David Stern showed videos of Kevin Martin to the refs and told them to stop calling it.

That was the real problem with KMart last year.

Stern just hates Houston for basketball reasons. D: lol
I do believe the drawing contact on purpose took a toll to his game mentally. He just didnt look comfortable.
Hopefully he does leave it behind and we get Kevin Martin offense with some Kevin McHale defense from his playing this season.

That and the fact McHale offense doesn't give him as many open cuts to the basket. Instead he had to shoot more jumpers and create offense on his own.

Really? I thought the McHale offense includes a lot of spacing, lots of room for cuts to the basket. So like, kind of the opposite of what you said.

Martin's to-the-basket game isn't the biggest part of his game anyway, that's always been his 3-pt shooting and drawing fouls. Over his career, almost 60% of his pts came either from 3-pointers or free throws.

    8728 career points
2232 points from the three point line
2716 points from the free throw line

:)NBA is entertainment now, it's not just a sport. In the entertainment business, there's little to zero tolerance about one's way of speech, despite your talents in that particular field of entertainment. Look at Megan Fox, an incredible hot girl with above average acting skills, yet ppl hated her, because she can just say anything without processing through her brains first.
There are others that fits better description than Megan, but I can only think of her right now.:)

He seems happier and more relaxed. Playing well within the system on both ends of the court. Bonding with the guys instead of sulking. I'm rooting for the guy.

Yeah, Martin's bound to play his a$$ off for this next contact ....and IS expiring. We're unlikely to see his pouty/apathetic side.

Anyone else think he'd be a great fit on the Bulls? It'd be nice to see him on a contender after spending his career being good on bad (sorry) teams.

Martin was actually a competent defender last season...people have said years he should be better defender with his length and quickness, holpefully McHale makes him realize that. So many turned on Martin last season and he certainly has the ability to put 20+ a game...I have always loved his efficient game and think he will have a career season....I like how yet in another story we hear how parsons is bonding with his team, the guy is such a glue guy...can't wait for season!

Good to know that he's also getting along with his teammates (Parsons mostly), I was sort of expecting the rooks and younger guys to shun Martin for some reason.

Actually no, The Mchale offense includes lots of low post play and pick and rolls. Rick on the other hand had a bunch of set plays for Martin and other wings where they work either a three man or two man game with the high post that got him a lot of easy layups and open shots.

Where as last season I saw a lot more iso's and pick n Roll plays with Martin where he doesn't really have the quickness to get to the basket, leading to a lot of contested jumpers and lower FG% in general. He still got his points from his usual fast break threes, but his scoring and efficiency dipped by a big margin.

You probably haven't seen many Rockets games in the past few seasons and don't realize the effect Adelman's system had on KMart.

I don't know what the point you are trying to make with those stats, no crap he scores a lot from the three and freethrows?

I see lots of cuts to the basket.

You said not being able to cut to the basket was a big reason for Martin's decline. I'm just pointing out that an abnormally large chunk (~60%) of his points come from 3-pointers or free throws. So his 4% decrease in 3 pt% and his ft attempts almost halving from 8.4 a game to just 4.5 are probably bigger reasons. His fg% was only down 2% despite what you say about the different systems.
