According to Obama and most of his high-profile supporters, Romney was lying about pretty much every major position that he differed with Obama on during the debate Wednesday night. There is a reason why Obama and his team are panicking about this to the extent that they obviously are. As almost everyone knows, Obama has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on negative ads targeted against Mitt Romney since last spring. Obama has done this because he cannot run on his record and the economy is still in seriously bad shape, even after four years with Obama as President. As a result, Obama's only hope to win the election is to smear and effectively destroy Mitt Romney. So Obama and his team have been trying desperately to "define" Mitt Romney as an unacceptable alternative to Barack Obama. As a result of the heavy negative ad spending and the breathtaking complicity of so many of his supporters in the media actively assisting with this effort, it was starting to look like this strategy just might work. But then in one night - an hour and a half actually - Mitt Romney took than entire narrative apart at the seams, leaving it a pile of worthless ruble on the debate set at the University of Denver. Hundreds of millions of dollars of ad spending largely wasted and the whole Obama campaign strategy undermined and effectively worthless, at least as it applies over the next 32 days until the election. So what we are seeing now is Obama and his team frantically trying to re-assemble their expensive and long-wrought narrative that Mitt Romney is not an acceptable alternative as President, on which Obama's campaign strategy has been based. What Romney also did successfully during the debate is to refocus the campaign on the issues, which Obama unwittingly complied with by speaking directly to the questions and issues raised by Jim Lehrer, rather than using his time to recite his campaign's talking points attacking Mitt Romney (the 47%, the dog on the car, the boy Romney bullied in high school, etc.). What this effectively achieved is to reestablish this contest as being a referendum on the presidency of Barack Obama. The only reason there has been any doubt about this is because of the doubt that was starting to form about the acceptability of Mitt Romney as an alternative candidate, complete with ideas of his own for dealing with our problems. The people got to hear Mitt Romney present his case directly to them during the debate Wednesday night, unfiltered by any effective spin by Obama or his campaign. The genie is out of the bottle. There is no going back. Mitt Romney has been affirmed as an acceptable alternative by most people in this country, and there will be nothing that the Obama campaign can do to re-establish their narrative to the contrary over the next 32 days. Game on. Here is an article chronicling the Democratic talking points on this by those sympathetic characters at the Huffington Post:
Either that, or he went negative for the same reason Romney went negative: it's proven to be an effective campaign strategy over decades of use. I'm not sure where you get this, but it's pretty laughable. Romney had a good night. A very good night. But the notion that it undid the whole summer is just silly. And completely inaccurate based on the limited polling we have seen thus far the last few days. No - what we're seeing is the standard spin that comes out of the losing side of every debate. Both sides will always spin things in their favor. There's nothing surprising about the silliness of the Obama campaign's response. It's no different than the silliness from the Romney campaign trying to justify things that had no justification on their end (the insane Libya response, the 47% comments, etc). It's what campaign surrogates are paid to do.
"Liar liar, pants on fire" Seriously, this is a great strategy by B Kardashian and his minions. You guys keep it up. President Romney and VP Ryan are laughing their asses off.
esteban, I would like to thank you for your continued insightful posts in the D&D. Also, you love to have sex with trannies.
They should be. They're f****ng pieces of s*** and Obama let Romney do and say whatever he wants. The time to rebut is during the debate, not after.
Sounds a lot like Mack Brown's press conference following that ass beating the Horns' D got against West V last Sat.
You're exactly right about them laughing their asses off. He clearly doesn't mind lying as long as whatever BS he happens to be spewing out at the moment invokes an emotional response in his favor. In most cases, a persons judgment will have been manipulated before any facts are presented. I got to rambling/preaching a bit in a pervious post, but I feel like these issues are much more important than the wedge issues and other manipulation tactics used in campaigning. By BOTH sides. Here's that prior post I made:
Romney did lie, several times. How is the fact that Democrats are calling him out on it surprising? What was surprising is that the President didn't call Romney out on it during the debate. And I find the polls carrying on about Obama losing the debate to Romney hilarious. Why? I hope everyone realizes that a large number of those who said Romney "won" the debate were Democrats who won't be voting for Mr. Romney. It has nothing to do with Romney giving a "good" debate performance. In my opinion, he was terrible. It was that Obama was that much worse. Romney lied and Obama let him. Romney lied and Obama let him.
Romney shattered Obama's campaign strategy into splinters during that debate. Obama cannot run on his record, and both the economy and job creation are also topics that do not help him and that he does not want to dwell on, for obvious reasons. As a result, his only chance to win has been to convince people that Romney is not a viable candidate to replace him as President. For this purpose, Obama has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on negative ads in the battleground states trying to "define" Mitt Romney as an extreme radical and as someone who is not an acceptable alternative as President. Up until the night of the debate, it was starting to look like it might just work. During the debate, Romney was able to speak directly to the American people, unfiltered by the media or the Obama campaign. People saw Romney in a fresh, new light, and as indicated by the polls over the last few days, they liked what they saw. As a result, Obama's expensive and time consuming effort to ruin Mitt Romney has been rejected. Nevertheless, the decision by the Obama team to attack Mitt Romney as a "liar" is an intentional effort to re-establish their narrative that Mitt Romney is an unacceptable candidate for President. The bad news for Obama is that this is really all he has. It is too late for him to implement an alternative strategy. So, they are doubling down on this one, even though it has already failed. It is not working and it will not work. And time is starting to run short.
Polling sample for October Poll: http://www.people-press.org/2012/10/08/romneys-strong-debate-performance-erases-obamas-lead/2/ Polling sample for September Poll: http://www.people-press.org/2012/09/24/for-voters-its-still-the-economy/2/ Has the gap closed some? Of course. Is it as bad as the Pew Poll indicates? Absolutely, not. Each poll had a skewed sample section for Obama vs Romney Supporters as well as Rep vs Dems.
Romney laughs a lot, and he is laughing now....all...the...way...to....the.... bank in the cayman islands
Mitt Romney won that debate because he exposed the Obama campaign's dishonesty. Obama has made two aspects the centerpieces of his campaign: 1. Strawman arguments that falsely and inaccurately depict Romney's positions on the issues 2. Negative ads that paint Romney as a bad person This is the BEDROCK of Obama's campaigns -- lies and distortions. The reason Romney had the biggest debate victory in the last 50 years is because he successfully demolished 1 and 2 above. America got to judge for themselves on 1 and 2 above, based on watching FOR THEMSELVES. Enough with Obama's lies, enough with Obama's record breaking spending on negative ads, America saw with its own eyes that Romney is a decent human being with great ideas. And they rejected Obama's lies. THAT is why Romney dominated and has regained momentum in this race.
This ^^ Kudos to Major for being the voice of reason here. Its funny hearing the "Romney Lied"...I believe the first fact check that came out had the candidates on equal footing with regards to "spinning the facts". So if Romney lied..then so did Obama equally as much. Romney has seen a bounce, no doubt..but in reality it remains to be seen if that bounce holds. There's still more debates coming and it could just as equally swing back to Obamas side.
