It's an opportunity for him because the team is not projected to make the playoffs or be competitive at all cost. Other than the owner, one has to be realistic. He is too undersized for the C spot other than filling in for 4 minutes. I didn't see elite rebounding skills or good post game at the SL so far.
I havent been following this whole lil drama... but based on what I've gathered, seems to me, it comes down to the following... If Royce let teams know about these issues and possibilites for the need for such accomodations prior to the draft - no prob! If he let a team (our beloved Rox) spend a draft pick and proceed in good faith and then jus starting springing this stuff - big prob!
Booyah... Yeah I had that thought to. He's messing with the entire organization and city at this point and I don't like it. It's not about trust! It's not about a bus! It's about can the boy show up to a simple practice and be a team mate to professional basketball players.
it is about trust... like the Rox trusting Royce would show up to practice after signing a contract, in what the last 60-90 days?
I think trying to apply normal logic to White is pointless. Because I'd venture to guess most if not all of us think very differently from Royce White. That's why I wondered about his talent level. Because in the end, how much the Rockets put up with his stuff depends mostly on his on-court performance. I mean, from a baggage standpoint, T-Mac and TWill were fairly similar. It's just that no one gives a damn if that baggage is carried by a top-5 NBA talent rather than a bench guy.
Terrence and JLamb looked pretty good in Summer League and in Camp so far..... Roy as the 16th pick is quietly falling behind Talent as said before is hard to evaluate when others are working harder and he is still figuring out a plan to go on bus rides
Hear me washing my hands this morning. I thought patience would do the trick but after reading the tweets, especially the 1 in 4 comment, RW scares the hell out of me. You don't secure trust by being untrustworthy. And I say this as it relates to the timing of all this.
Come on that statement is getting so old. They are assets plain and simple and if they don't realize that they are then you have to wonder about their intelligence. The same way your an asset if you work for a company, if you don't perform your gone.
doesnt Royce realize that the attention will ALL be on him once he arrives to camp LATE? If you have a fear of things like this, then why would you put yourself into a situation where ALL the attention will be on you? Wouldnt you show up to practice early, be quiet, and just play basketball? the ONE thing that calms your anxiety down? I feel for the guy, but with his up and down moods as well as his anxiety, sheesh... is he going to be worth it...
Do you think Royce would choose to do these things if he could? He has an illness that his trying to overcome. He told all the teams before the draft, thus the rockets need to be patient and flexible for his needs which is different to other players. If a company decides to hire a person who is disabled or has an illness then they would be making special exemptions to cater for that person. E.g working hrs, lifts guide dog etc... If the rockets are not prepared to be flexible and patient then why did they draft white? His a high character guy and I believe top 5 draft talent. I take a risk on white then low character guys.
nah, if you listen closely to the teams he doesn't mention, he doesn't mention quite a few teams in early-mid 20s. Atlanta, Memphis and such.
Not me. White deserves some serious criticism for how he's handled this, and he still hasn't shown up in camp. It's a disruption with an impact on the rest of the players, with the staff frustrated as hell, I'm sure. But having said that, I'll forgive a lot if you bring it on the court. Produce, and you can paint yourself blue, for all I care. Morey obviously sees something in this kid, so show us what that something is, Royce.
Ironic, Morey, the guy who seldom refers to players as anything but assets, has to deal with this. If and this is a big if Royce and the Rockets can get through this and if Royce can deliver on the court we could have a guy who retires as a Rocket after a ten year career. I predict he will be incredibly loyal. High risk, high return. The Rockets need a few breaks to get to the top. Hopefully Royce is one of them.
