Royce needs to chill. It's understandable that a disorder would cause him not to trust easily. However, the disorder doesn't keep him from thinking clearly and with reason after the fact. The Rockets need to trust him too and had he shown up to camp, even today, he would have paid back their trust with his, sooner and not later (which is what he wanted and got). Not every disorder gives you a free pass to act up.

I hope I don't come across as unsympathetic about mental disorders. But where do you draw the line?

White said 1/4 of Americans have it. I am pretty sure he has underestimated the problem. You know, there are Lack of Motivation Disorder, Choker Disorder (those guys who can't handle the pressure of crunch time and disappear), Laziness Disorder, Womanizing Disorder, etc. That's at least 80% of Americans if I have to guess.

We always talk about the mental side of basketball. White is dealing with it right now.

Starting to feel this way to. The reporter doesn't seem to mind that White blew him a meeting and never informed him, but frankly White just sounds petulant and has issues deeper than anxiety.

Some of the comments on this thread are depressing me out. There are guys in the NBA who killed people, sleep around with other women who aren't there wives, beat there spouses, drink & drive, don't take care of there children and do all sorts of foolishness. These guys make millions and teams willingly take them in, some of them are future HOFers & fans grow up idolizing them. It's said how some people are saying the kid with anxiety is to much of a distraction and send him to the D-League & he isn't worth it and all this other stuff. At least give him a chance to prove himself on the court first. If all those previous A-holes can make it in the league why the hell can't the kid, who seems like a genuinely nice guys, with anxiety.

In White's defense, the writer did say Royce moved on from doing things like that.

I have the feeling his media presence, anxiety and his potential that is going to be mere potential without PT is causing him to NOT develop into an NBA player.
    Hope I am wrong.

With the way the Twitter thing is going, I'm inclined to disagree with the reporter's assessment.

White wants to use his status as a NBA player to bring awareness about mental health issues. I commend him for that.

But he doesn't seem to realize that until he is widely admired for his basketball skills, which remain unproven on the pro level, he has no platform to be heard and taken seriously. For now, he needs to stop with the tweets and public hooha and just play bball.

Because they didn't ask to sleep with or kill people when they should have been on the team plane?

I get what you're saying, but certain things interfere directly with basketball, and some dont. The NBA is forgiving about the former, hell, all leagues are, really. Even Vick has regained the love of fans. It all comes down to being able to play, and play well. It's a business and in all businesses the people in charge care about results, not what you do at home. White's illness could very well repeatedly hurt results on the court, the others, not so much. Once those things happen, with some time, things go back to whatever is normal.

YEAH! We shouldn't judge people by their words... or their actions... no, we should just sit back and... uh... wait what was I saying?

He'll better back it up with unmatched bball skills. Poor man's Lebron it is.

Roxxy was referring to fans criticizing White. You responded by defending management. You're not the team management. You're a fan. So while your argument makes sense from a management perspective, it does not excuse fans who make rude and pretentious comments. It's not our jobs to criticize and demand the removal of a guy with mental issues. On another note, I happen to think it's disturbing how quickly people will idolize felons and poor character for the sake of their own entertainment.

Also what the hell? How does any of this have to do with mental health? I mean skipping practice and throwing a public tantrum? Sounds like an agent got the idea to work up the angle in order to promote mental health issues and make a big stink out of it to get endorsements and an instant fan base. This is going to back fire...

or the other side is it's just Royce White pulling a diva card and using his disorder as an excuse.

the kid is sitting at home engaging in unilateral twitter warfare with some C-list espn writer instead of working on his game with his teammates at training camp as we type. give him a chance? this situation is beyond ludicrous
