I'm just going by what the article says. It says "family doctor". That's an internist. And even if we really stretch this like you are suggesting, like Mr. Clutch says, if he still can't fly after 5 years of treatment maybe it's time to try a different approach. And sure he may have seen others, but it sounds like he is acting on the basis of conversations with his old family doctor.
"They decided that the bus was essential. No bus, no training camp." I would not trust a doctor or anyone who tells me to play a White on my first job on the first day. Mr. White needs to stop taking the medicine from that doctor.
I think his intelligence and insight can also be a double edged sword. He is smart enough to make it sound like what he's doing is somehow "therapeutic" or part of some kind of healthy plan. He is also smart enough to put the Rockets in a difficult spot by going directly to the media and social media. Basically, in my view, he is smart enough to be a master avoider of things that make him anxious. Look how he has dealt with this situation in a way where people are bending over backwards to help him avoid flying. If he wasn't so intelligent, I doubt he would be able to make this look like some healthy thing. In my clinical work with patients with anxiety disorders they all do that. Some days my patients will come in and bring up some sort of made up or overblown crisis just so I won't ask them the anxiety provoking stuff. They will say or do anything to avoid doing the things that scare them, and my job as a therapist is to try to help them overcome that avoidance. Some patients are particularly good avoiders, and they frequently tell me so. And it's not because they are bad people or somehow deficient, it's the nature of their disorder. People with anxiety disorders try to avoid what makes them anxious, and the avoidance is exactly what worsens their condition and prevents recovery.
He's got anxiety problems and it seems he's a primadonna that whines. I got a feeling this won't be the only issue he has with the Rox. I can see him b**ching about playing time, going down to the D-League etc.
honestly, this quote is exactly what came to mind when i read white's first public statement on the situation it's clutch's initial thread on the 2nd. imo, morey the 'wizard' is out of his league with this kid. white is a calculating and manipulating genius who will exhaust all legal options against this franchise
The problem with him is that he does things, admits, and then he does some more things and admits...and so on, and so on... I'm a bit worried about this and it might start looking like a clown show, let's hope this issue doesn't rule the day to day activities of the team...
The way I see it if Royce can show he's a potential all star, then it's a win win for both sides. If he doesn't pan out bench or trade him. Atleast we'll know the Rox will get plenty of "at bats" for future draft picks.
Carl, you are a big Battier fan. He's not the typical NBA basketball player. He also talked about other interests besides basketball. But he has no problem getting teammates and coaches' trust. I don't think White's problem is about him being not typical. It's about maturity and character, and how you communicate. It's true in the NBA and in any line of work. White seems to communicate in a way that says that he is going to demand people's care and support before he can function well. That's not going to go well in any kind of work environment. It is probably because of his mental problem that Royce White is like that. That's too bad. And it's not his fault. But it's not other people's fault either. To me, his mental condition that might prevent him to be a great basketball player is no different than millions of people's lack of physical talent to play in the NBA. Some NBA players use their smart and hard work to compensate for their lack of athleticism. Some use their athleticism to compensate for their lack of intelligence. It's the whole package that counts. I hope White's enormous basketball talent can overcome his mental disabilities. But that's life. Everyone of us is dealt a hand and we are to play with it the best we can.

That's agent talk. There's no way White and a doctor, alone, put this together and presented it to the front office.
I wish we had a list of players who's first love is basketball and a list of those who prefer something else. Seems like we've had some of those lately. I wonder how much a team is affected by having too many from either list.
""""Access to a bus might ultimately give White that sense of security he's always desired. What he may not realize, however, is that the Rockets have to trust him too.""""""" The author wrote the last sentence well. A mutual trust is a must. Even he has LJ's talent and drive to success but an incorrect attitude (i.e. entitlement, etc.) will not bode well for this young man in the future. He can do it as long as he has a contract. But after his contract....... What is next for Rockets and other NBA teams?
