I would bet that before the draft Royce and his agent told the Rockets that he was on medication and had control of the disorder and flying to games wouldn't be a problem at all. Then camp opens and he is no where to be found and the Rockets find out that he still has issues. I hope he likes the Rio Grande Valley.

Royce shouldn't just buy a bus. Buying is for suckers. He needs to get himself an endorsement deal so that some bus maker pays Royce to drive around in their bus.

Most likely Royce's agent must be cringing right now because of all of this, but I feel ZERO sympathy for him. Here's why.

His agent has to be smart enough to know that this has killed any potential value his client would have built in his first season in the NBA unless he just straight up dominates on the court(IF he gets any significant playing time that is). He must feel fortunate that the Rockets have done this great of a job at keeping this situation in house and out of the leagues hands up to this point.

His agent should be condoned for allowing his client to elaborate substantially on Twitter, ESPN, etc. the past 48 hours. This could easily become a HUGE legal matter between the league and the NBPA at any minute and every word he types on Twitter can be taken into consideration at a future date.

As you mentioned, yes its very likely that Royce and his agent "campaigned" not only to the Rockets but many teams that he was on his medication, and would have no issues flying during the season. Obviously Royce and the Rockets front office should have known that this dog and pony show is farce.

However, I don't blame Royce, and Rockets. I blame his management. This is something they should have been prepared to negotiate in is contract from day one. They were so concerned with getting a Nickel in commission from Royce's first round rookie contract, that they mortgaged a dollar for that Nickel that would have come with Royce's second contract with a nice smooth start in his first couple years in the league with solid minutes and production.

Now where are we??? Royce's red flags are elevated even higher now, and its going to be nearly impossible for Royce to gain consistent minutes this season, and gain value to his "brand" in his very important rookie season. From a business standpoint, this is a nightmare.

I have to say that I continue to be amazed at the complete idiots that manage NBA athletes. They look for the easy buck they can make on draft day, and then seem to disappear after that leaving the athlete alone to manage their career on their own. Now even though the basketball world is backing Royce with open arms, no team will even think about trading for him, and its going to be very.... VERY difficult for Royce to earn significant playing time in his very important rookie season. Its a damn shame. His NBA career just took a major step backwards because of this situation unfortunately.

Its not necessarily Royce's fault. Actually I understand completely why he's negotiating the terms of his health. Its ABSOLUTELY necessary to ensure a healthy work environment for himself, and his teammates. However, from a business standpoint, I can't help but shake my head at the idiots that are managing him right now.

Not worried about it. Dude can either play or he can't. I'm pretty sure we'll know by the All-Star break whether or not he's gonna be a player.

I know you're joking, but that's not a bad idea. Someone should get Royce's agent on this.

Not so sure about that. Brandon Jennings is a great example of what can happen if a rookie comes out right away and blows everyone away. Whats the old saying about first impressions? That first impression rookie season did wonders for his value, and he might even reap a nice sizeable second contract next season because of that first year showing.

I think your right that we will see how he plays and know pretty quick, but I cant help but think that his value as an NBA player just dropped dramatically this week because of this ordeal, and the lack of playing time that might result from it. Maybe Royce, the Rockets, and Houston fans could care less, but the businessman in myself cant help but want to scream at the people managing him.

There are plenty of guys with mental illnesses (many probably not made public) and other issues in the NBA. If you can help a team on the court, things will be worked out.

For example, Delonte West is known to have severe bipolar disorder and has had his shares of run-ins with the law. He's not a superstar talent, but has been in the league for a long time. Ron Artest has also dealt with mental health issues and has been quite productive for teams, including the Rockets. He has recently opened up about dealing with mental illness:

    <embed src="http://www.mtvu.com/player/embed/" width="423" height="318" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="CONFIG_URL=http://www.mtvu.com/player/embed/configuration.jhtml%3fvid%3D717513" allowFullScreen="true" base="." allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent"></embed>

The main difference between White and these other guys is that White is being open about it since the very beginning of his NBA career, and is in fact trying to engage in a public discussion about mental illnesses. He is also more articulate than West and Artest were in the early part of their NBA career.

As for Royce missing camp: It's not good and he admits it's a mistake, but I can see how his disorder made it difficult for him to make his request earlier and have things worked out before training camp. Besides, guys have recovered from way worse mistakes than missing the first week of camp.

Just curious, was this part of the reason why Royce was kicked from the Minnesota team back in college?

Can't imagine the guy ever being one of them thugs or headcases. He seems way too much mature to get himself into trouble, much less kicked off a team

    LMFAO

It was his pending criminal case that got him kicks off the team, though he said he left on his own on youtube. Not good..........
