John Madden, as coach of the Oakland Raiders, traveled by bus for fear of flying, and he didn't any have an anxiety disorder like Royce.
Most of us agree his anxiety disorder is a legitimate reason for his request. My problem is how he puts pressure on the organization to yield to his demand. Missing the training camp when you are obviously able to attend is not a good start.
jus wait till he don't wanna get on dat bird for da long trips, cries for da bus, and then we hav ALL da drama.....or he go postal on a trip
Where did everyone get this idea that he was holding the team hostage or putting pressure on the organization? How do we know that he wasn't making these demands before and the team was being uncooperative I feel like I am missing something.
Yao Ming missed the first two weeks of his training camp because of the Asian Olympics. Sure, that is a valid excuse by rules of FIBA, but still that's not a good start to his training. Also, Yao Ming showed up basically not speaking much English at all. I don't get that. He knew well over year he wanted to be drafted by the NBA and he did nothing to learn the language spoken in his work environment. And all he really needed was to learn specific work-related speech (Basketball language). It's not like we plucked him out off the China Wall as a completely new discovery so had to teach him English. Yet, we gave him a pass when he showed up two weeks late and needed a constant-companion translator to live with him paid for by the company. Dude did NOT need a translator (a lot of it was to help deal with the media so he didn't screw up on camera), but we knew it would help. But let's all blame Royce White who is dealing with mental disorders and never had the handlers that Yao Ming did.
White already said it was his fault for not bringing it up sooner. He said he had anxiety over asking, so he didnt, until he realized he better ask before starting camp. Perhaps "holding hostage" is a bit harsh, but he's basically saying he won't go to camp until they sign off. If that wasn't the case, he would have made the drive already.
Not even Dennis Rodman needed this much maintenance, and he played at a hall of fame level. Let's not fool ourselves. This has disaster written all over it.
White said it is fault he did not come to the Rockets sooner about getting his issues with travel resolved, but he pointed out his illness had a lot do with that as well. "I will take full responsibility for that," White said. "You have to understand that with the disorder I have specifically, it was very worrisome, stressful for me to even make a decision to be able to ask for what I need. - Foxnews so basically, his disorder prevented him from coming forward earlier to inform his employer that his disorder needed a bus. he (or his disorder) decided a holdout was less anxious.
I see. So his anxiety made him nervous about asking for help for his anxiety. Sigh that is rough. Honestly, I am just happy he was able to ask for his help. It is easy to say that he is being unprofessional or not pro-active. But anxiety is so debilitating that I get it. Hopefully the NBA approves everything and he can get to camp and focus on the important things, basketball.
I'm not doubting he said this, as it would make sense, but where? Please provide a link. I thought I had read everything and seen all video interviews. Did I miss a tweet or something?
as per ico post http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/19737112/2012/10/04/royce-white-says-agreement-in-place
haha this thread delivers…. can we PLEASE bump this in january and see if everyone is still all rosey with their responses about White when he goes AWOL for a week and misses 3 or 4 games.. when THAT happens please bump this thread so everyone can see how ridiculous they all sound about "let's rally behind the guy. oh gee em gee golly".. Millionaire Basketball player.. how about you get your crap together, let us give you some night night pills and get your ass on the plane?
Call me crazy but I think he creating waaay more stress doing this than just showing up and practicing. 6 hour drive...could have told the office earlier you'd like to wheel it to warm up to it. Now he's got himself under the microscope with media, fans and the front office.
