Maybe the Rockets didn't expect this to happen and thought Royce would show up at camp, since he did Vegas fine. Maybe Royce should have brought this to the Rockets attention earlier before camp started. I'm sure if Royce asked for this earlier, the Rockets would be willing to work something out like they are now, and with more time to spare.

Could Royce show up at camp and still negotiate a plan? Or that wouldn't work?

I am not blaming Royce. He has his own reasonings. I understand he wants to take care of himself first before everything. But right now it's him holding out the training camp for his "demands". The Rockets don't hold him for everything.

Also, the bus request is one he himself revealed to the press. We don't know how much more demands he might have requested or will request in the future.

It's something that can be overcome. My favorite hockey player, Alexander Mogilny, was fear of flying.

"During Mogilny's first few seasons in Buffalo, he was known as a player of immense talent who was a bit of a handful off the ice. First problem: fear of flying. Playing in the Eastern Conference, Mogilny soon decided that he would rather drive than fly between geographically close games. While he avoided planes and airports, he also found himself late for games and exhausted from driving. With time, however, Alex licked his problem and is now comfortable playing for a team with one of the most intense travel schedules in the league. He flies "Air Canuck" along with everybody else on the team."

Like other posters, I don't get the need for the holdout. Why can't he negotiate this while taking part in the training camp?

This does not bode well for me. Hope the guy doesn't turn out to be high maintenance.

How do you know royce didn't tell the organization about this before? Sure let us assume that royce will have more demands in the future. When you draft a player with an illness you do your due diligence much in advance. The rockets aren't stupid they did there homework. Just like they did there homework on Lin's knee injury.

The Rockets should just offer this guy the best Dr's money can buy, then tell him to show up for camp next year ,ready to fly.

You don't know the timing of how things happened. The Rockets can't do anything unless he communicates a request to them. Obviously it wasn't an issue during Summer League so he made his demand sometime after that. He could have waited until the last minute to make these demands b/c he wanted to pressure the front office or maybe he was just afraid to ask. Either way, from my point of view it looked like the Rockets were blindsided by this. McHale didn't seem like he was expecting this.

Just because he has an illness doesn't mean he can't be the bad guy in all this.

Agreed. It seems like this guy brought this problem up at the 11th hour. How in the hell is that the Rockets fault?

He needs to holdout b/c its about the terms of his contract. If he shows it doesn't really give the Rockets incentive to agree. Royce already signed his contract so it's really his fault for not negotiating this as part of his deal.

support the kid. meet him half way on the bus thing. He's still gonna have to fly to plenty of games, but give him the opportunity to travel stress-free when possible. Hope they can reach an agreement soon, and that White can get started being part of a young, dynamic team.

Got to put the blame for this not on White but on the organization. I don't get why the team didn't work this out before it got to this level.

They knew from the start about his mental health issues and that they are the main reasons he fell to where you could pick him as they themselves said, he was "Top ten talent." Seems like they didn't really research what the issues were otherwise they would have gotten these travel arrangement stuff handled BEFORE training camp.

I mean what were they doing during the time after the Howard - Bynum deals fell through besides signing Delfino?

This doesn't bode well for the rest of his career. If he can't anticipate the things that will trigger his anxiety a little better than this it seems that we're always going to catering to this at the last minute. I'm trying to be understanding but this is day one and we're already having problems. He needs to be with the team.

And I don't blame him for doing so because the BR is trash. Anybody can write for BR. Half of the people probably know nothing about any of those players they write about.

Apparently they knew something because they said his "condition " would hold him back and he is already missing the first parts of camp
