This first year could be ugly at times but hopefully he makes it through the majority of it without incident. I'm oping that the routine traveling will ease his anxiety over time, simply by him getting more use to it. A lot of times, bad flyers get more and more comfortable with it the more they do fly
Should have been addressed earlier.....but it wasn't.....will be interesting to see how it plays out.
The team should support him. They all take the bus. Let's be honest, it's not like they need the extra practice time, McHale isn't going to give them any life altering gameplans.
Great point! This is my concern as well. I think it would have been better for him to try to make himself a spokesperson for anxiety disorders once he had this more under control. Right now he is sending some of the wrong messages to people about how to cope with these kinds of problems.
Morey blew the pick. Simple as that. That's his bad. It's White's bad that he door-popped the Rockets with these demands the first day of training camp instead of bringing it up earlier. I've written the guy off and I bet the Rockets have too. For them, it's now face-saving mode so they can't be blamed for his failed NBA career and whatever else happens to him from now on. Time to focus on the guys that have a chance of being meaningful contributors to the team. The Royce White affair is a side-show distraction.
Jump to conclusions much? You must be a kid, because in real life, people have problems, and employers have to deal with these sorts of things.
How many Royce White threads about this are we going to have? Should I cut and paste my post in Clutch's thread and stick it here? Inquiring minds want to know. This one does, at any rate.
Sounds like putting any hope in this guy right now and for the foreseeable future is a waste of energy. I'll be pleased if they somehow work something out, but in the meantime I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Seems like there's too many obstacles to overcome here.
You sound so definitive what is your source that the Rockets are in face saving mode? And stop overreacting with the failed NBA career nonsense.
As I said, this was thread was started because it exposes some of the issues, other than the mental anxiety issues, that is preventing Royce White from being with the team. I did post it in each of the other 2 Royce White threads by Clutch and Jeff, but believe that it may have been overlooked or missed by some. I could always start another Jeremy Lin thread...
Give me a break. You must be a kid if you think this is purely about Royce White becoming a player on the Houston Rockets. It's much bigger than that now. Royce White and his people will make sure of that. Are you old enough to know much about human nature? The youngsters on the Rockets will NEVER view Royce White the same way again. He is a rookie missing his first training camp and we don't even know if he's good enough to contribute without this problem. This is my first read of the situation. I'll be glad to be wrong. If you don't agree, fine. But it's my opinion whether you like it or not. I feel sorry for Royce White but this is debilitating for someone who wants to be an NBA player. The NBA is not a normal work environment.
You guys need to have some patience. Anxiety is brutal. I have it. Your mind is like a gas pedal that is stuck in the down position. The fight or flight response is always on and it's hard to turn off. This first year will be hard on White, so give him his bus rides for now. We as fans need to hope for White to become desensitized to flying at some point, because he will be flying a lot during his time in the NBA, flying so often that, maybe, he won't need the bus after a couple of years. He also needs to get on or stay on anti-anxiety meds for his rookie season.
Traveling on a bus to games will just not be feasible...this kid doesn't understand...the nuisances of traveling... its just not that easy...he really just needs to take a season off and fix things in his life and health...traveling with the team is a thing he must do for his own safety...Imagine him trying to bus even 30% of the games this season...traveling on a bus is so much more dangerous and you dont account for traffic etc...this is not college...the poor guy wont survive in this league... Maybe perhaps the way to treat his fear of flights is to medically knock him out prior to a trip...fly him and wake him up...once he has gotten to a new place... The Rockets and RW needs to address his issue of flights as their first priority...Busing is not a realistic option for the NBA and a grueling 82 game season...Consider this a season ending injury till they can medically address his mental health problem...
I agree. A lot of closet therapists coming out of the woodwork talking out of thier ass. The Rockets KNEW this could be a problem and the Rockets DRAFTED him anyway. It's time to help him and if that means taking a bus to San Antonio then so be it.
I have the same fear but after an hour on the air I feel ok. also i take meds when it's a long flight so I can sleep.
My daughter has developed a 'needle phobia' due to a clumsy nurse pulling at her cannula's that were inserted into her hand, instead of lifting the hand. She has to receive chemotherapy weekly, and still once a month has to have a needle in the thigh after the 6 hour session. She is slowly getting better, and accepting that the needle is just part of her life for now. She still sometimes gets very anxious and fearful, but knows what has to be done in order for her to get on with her life. I have battled and dealt with anxiety, panic attacks and my own fear of flying...and it was hellish at times, but my message to Royce is MAN UP. My daughter is only 8, and not receiving a fat pay check after dealing with her anxiety and fears concerning her chemo and needles. You will receive a fat check after dealing with your issues. If you need any help in deling with your issues and overcoming them, I'm willing to show you how I beat the demons, free of charge. But mate...if you're going to do something, do it the right way. You should be at camp, you should be with the team, and this travel fiasco should've been sorted out before now. I'm still in your corner and rooting for you, but if you keep acting like a prima donna, and playing the 'mental health' card to get your way...you will loose fans and it will affect your career in the long run.
