I can't believe anyone would think Obama is a great speaker/debater

His level is nearly on par with Bush the junior's. He stutters a lot and totally lacks cohesiveness and fluency, his brain is in constant need of oxygen and he can not speak a complete sentence without unwanted breaks unless he comes out with those parallelism ones for rhetorics.

    eh....

The difference between the two is that Romney sounds like he's practiced his retorts a million times over. It sounds like he pretaped his responses. Obama was taking the debate head on. He actually thought about his responses, he wasn't a tape recording. Of course that doesn't sound as good, but at the same token it also makes him look like less of a puppet.

Agreed. Obama was painful to listen to. Long-winded, stammering answers that seemed to drone on and on. Romney was more concise and organized in his responses. He knew what he wanted to say and he got there quickly without hesitating.

Based on that alone, leaving aside the substance of what they were talking about, Romney won this debate.

Obama fell on his face tonight. He's going to be clutching his teleprompter tonight while he sleeps.

If you want someone who speaks well why not go ahead and elect a puppet actor who knows nothing and slowly slips in a senile state basing his policies on sci fi movies he loved.... Oh wait...

Obama sounded like a bumbling idiot tonight. Reminded me of Bush.

LOL. I was just talking about Obama's public speech in general, not comparing him to Romney.

Obama looked like the guy who also has a day job.

I can't believe he never went on the attack. Romney is a scumbag who lied his way through the debate; but people don't stick around for the fact-check.

Obama will learn his lesson for the next two debates, but I am disappointed he showed up tonight with a spoon at a knife fight.

I did not say whom I prefer to be the president, I did not relate the ability of speech to the ability to be the president, I was just commenting on Obama's ability of speech.

Most presidents were very very articulate in speech, by the way.

Bush the junior was the worst in history both ways.

    1. Bush the Junior got himself elected President twice.

    2. Romney beat Obama this time. But Obama did well enough to get himself elected over Hillary and McCain.

    3. In any case, I would not overreact. You can lose a debate and still get elected.

I think he isn't eloquent on speaking impromptu as he is when he prepared for it but he's a sensible, reasonable man.

He's obviously tried on speaking to audiences who are learned.

Obama is very careful about what he says which is why he often goes "umm.." (very well parodied on SNL). That doesn't always make for dynamic speaking but also a reason why he doesn't usually get hammered by fact checkers.
