So whats the deal with White has he shown up yet to training camp? Seriously rooting for him but man if he cant get to training camp hows he going to endure the highs and lows of the NBA?
never missed a game.. said on court he feels the best no problems his talent is worth it... 16th pick....can be top 5 rookies
I have to believe you're just being facetious but doing a poor job. Athletes are humans and not just assets for your personal entertainment.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8459655/royce-white-absent-houston-rockets-cites-mental-health [rquoter]White will not join the franchise at training camp until he has "something in writing" that addresses the team's plan to treat his anxiety disorder and OCD, according to his publicist, California-based China Myers. "There are often negative consequences to mental illness when not given the proper support," said White, according to a statement released through Myers. "Often, those consequences are more severe for the surrounding people than the sufferer him/herself. I am not willing to allow those consequences to befall on myself or others close to me. "It causes me anxiety to know that serious consequences could happen if I do not express what I deal with, or if I am not truthful enough to ask for what I need to be healthy. For me, hiding is no longer a healthy option in treating my anxiety or OCD, so I have asked for some help from the organization to ensure long-term health for myself. "It has been determined that without a specific plan in place, the current workplace is not healthy for me. I feel that it is essential to formulate the right plan for a better chance of execution, despite other timelines or agendas. The most important agenda to me is a plan that is healthy. Therefore, a plan has been requested that will support a healthy work environment. In addition to this, it has been requested that the standard requirements for players in regards to this plan be voided because it is not a standard situation. "It is regrettable that I cannot be currently present, but long-term health obviously should be the most important thing. I will continue to champion the cause for mental illness being met with understanding; if not, the ramifications are dangerous. "Mental illness is a very individual-based disorder -- very unique for each person. So for those who come forward and ask for help, a very unique support plan should be the solution, given the nature of mental illness. "No blame is being placed on the Rockets organization."[/rquoter]
Kind of odd. I guess we will need to keep low expectations for Royce. I just don't get why everyone is running around acting like THEY paid for #15 pick right now.
I wonder what type of support he needs. I hope the Rockets are actively working with him to put a plan in place. I can't imagine it being that difficult.
And he's just now tossing this in Morey's lap? All of a sudden? Without any prior warning? He's stalling for time.
My reading of that statement is that this is effectively a contractual holdout, except in this case it's for a better health plan rather than more pay.
"White will not join the franchise at training camp until he has "something in writing" that addresses the team's plan to treat his anxiety disorder and OCD, according to his publicist, California-based China Myers." In other words he wants to be excluded from DM the GM's asset wish list.
I would guess it has more to do with media interviews and how he feels that they're like "a pack of wolves" than being traded. Maybe he wants special accommodations (like fewer media, shorter interview times, etc.) for post-game interviews or something.
I think this is rather inappropriate, considering Royce White is hardly a sure prospect and the Rockets did him a favor by selecting him 7 spots ahead of where he would've been slotted next. To suddenly spring this out on the Rockets organization, during training camp, with no notice, seems to me Royce is making excuses.
I totally understand what White is going through as I have family members who suffer from the same thing and really do sympathize with him but why did this only come up once training camp started. Surely this could have been dealt with when he signed his contract and not left it to the last minute?
