I have a question for UVerse TV customers regarding how the setup works and pricing. I know there are a lot of threads comparing different providers but that is not really what I am looking for. Main question is - how does ATT setup and connect all the UVerse boxes in the house? Do they connect to the cable outlet in the wall or the phone outlet? Reason I ask is because we will need to connect 6 TV's. All rooms have a cable outlet but not phone. There are only 2 phone jacks in the house. Second question - is there any way to save $$ on the receivers? I don't like how each TV needs a receiver and they charge $7 per unit. I currently have Dish and I like how they have dual receivers that can send a signal to 2 TV's granted one would be SD but that is fine with me. I don't need HD on all 6 TV's and it sucks to have to pay for 5 units (1 is free). Has anyone been able to get ATT to give them the receivers for free or to provide some sort of discount? Finally, does ATT do referrals? If yes, what is the offer? Thanks
Some U-Verse connections, I've heard, are via COAXIAL (the cable connection you mention), some are with ETHERNET (the network type). Mine is all coaxial because my house didn't have ethernet connections. In my experience, the installer always checked the cable coaxial connection and routed the cable to the main DVR up to the ceiling, then distributed the cables down to every room to existing connections or created new ones. I installed two rooms myself with coaxial after that, and told the new U-verse guy to install them. After a year, I took one off and told U-verse I didn't need it anymore. On a new installation, it could be coaxial if it exists already, or it can be ethernet. This is where U-verse users talk to other users of the same service in regards to how they get features, how to deal with installations, etc. http://www.uverseusers.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=2&topic=17097.0 ----------- All the receivers have HD and are HD-capable, but it's a $10 extra fee for the service in HD no matter what package you get. I don't know how to get free receivers. Look in the forum above. ----------- Yes, ATT does referrals, but... I've vouched to not do that anymore, because someone from here got the service with my referral number and I never got anything in return, and I couldn't even share the gift card with him. Apologies, man... you know who you are.
Good info. Thanks! That helps to answer the question about what outlets they use. Now to figure out how not to get robbed by these receiver fees.
On receiver fees just negotiate with the sales rep. I made sure I had no receiver fees and I threatened to look elsewhere if they didn't waive the fees. Sure enough it worked.
I will try but a lot of teh UVerse savings come from online orders. So I may gain one thing and loose another. I don't know about ATT but I had experiences like this with other companies where you call a sales rep and they can't give you the web specials for whatever reason..
all my rooms have a ethernet jack..so i lucked out with uverse. phone line comes into the study, then I send the signal out to my master closet via a network cable where I have a ethernet switch (all the rooms' ethernet connection starts here)..and..that's it. phone line --> study ---> network out to master closet ---> distribute via switch now on the uverse box there's also coxial output...so i am sure you can easily send out via regular cable and distribute to your other tvs.
Just like stores... you're using their time... so they could be doing other things while helping you... online, you're not wasting anyone's time but yours.
did 6 tvs not catch anyone else by surprise? But i'm sure they will negotiate with you on the box fees given you are getting so many.
I cut down on box fees by getting rid of three of them and replacing them with one wireless box, which we can move into whatever room we want. May or may not be a workable solution for you though, but the wireless receiver definitely does work well.
Just to be fair, 4 of the TV's are small 32" LCD's. Got them for the bedrooms and office through out the year when they were on sale on 1SaleADay.com. I think they were less than $200. So they are nothing special but I want them all hooked up if possible. We have a small TV in the baby room and its a life saver when you have to sit there for the feeding or just turn it on for the baby
Just got it installed a few weeks ago. Keep in mind you can have a max of two wireless receivers. They work well
I have 5 TV's hooked up to their receivers and thanks to about 2 minutes of negotiating I ended up getting all receiver fee's waived plus free HD.
Who the hell cares how many TV's I have. Half of them are cheap 32" for the kids bedrooms. I am just trying to see if anyone has a referral. Either you have it or you dont.
I just read through the referral program, and it looks like you'd have to join first, but if you email me through the board I'll send you my info. as long as you promise to do the same for me so I may partake in free moneys.
Does it tell you what the person you are referring to gets? I can't tell by looking here: http://uverse-referrals.att.com/home/public.pg All it says is up to $75 but what do I have to order in order to get it?
