Well if they are going to stand behind him then they need to figure out a better way to make this work. I guess as fans we will have to treat him like a player who is on the injured reserve or something like that.
Royce needs support in a time like this, he's a human being first and a basketball player somewhere after that. I stand by Royce White, and I believe in Royce White.
Happy to note that there are a lot of NBA bloggers who are sharing there personal experiences with anxiety and righting articles about it in light of Royce's situation. http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...e-whites-absence-a-reminder-not-a-revelation/ http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2012/10...ouston-rockets-training-camp-anxiety-disorder http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...p-apparent-anxiety-issues-134203095--nba.html And a lot o NBA bloggers and fans of different teams are sending him well wishes. I checked his mentions on twitter and there was also nothing to bad.
Is it ok if White only play home and SW division game so he don't need to get on the plane? After all, he is just a rookie and backup only.
No, that's not ok. You're trying to build a team here. You're trying to find consistency both individually and together through the cohesion of playing together as a rotation. I think that would be problematic.
The big issue is if McHale can trust him to show up at important games and important times. It's like McGrady with his gimpy knee after the surgery. You can't have a player that doesn't show up when we need him.
I wish Royce well. Mental illness is frustrating for everyone, but it is he who is suffering the most.
I don't think being in the games is the issue. From the chron article it seems that times of transition are the issue. So what would worry me is if this team made the playoffs and he had a panic attack and couldnt perform.
If he wants a successful nba career, he's going to have to be able to fight through this anxiety disorder.
I will agree that some are taking it too far and clearly don't understand the implications of a mental disorder... on the other hand, it's fair to be concerned both for Royce as a human being and for the Rockets trying to rebuild a basketball team through youth in the draft. It's fair to be concerned that if he has a difficult time showing up for this event, there might be more events later down the road that he will be unable to show up for; events whose outcomes we care far more about than this one. That doesn't mean it's Royce's fault..in the same way Yao's injuries weren't his fault. It means that the Rockets, as a business, with limited draft picks and limited money under the cap, have to be mindful of which baskets they put eggs in. It's ok to acknowledge that.
http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2012/10/royce-white-needs-and-has-the-rockets-support/ First solid article by Solomon and spot on, I have also have my doubts about McHale being able to deal with White..
