Please don't use your beliefs to justify anything but your own personal ethics. As you said earlier this is a sports forum. Royce is dealing with a psychological illness, this isn't just some switch he can turn on and off. Imagine telling your brain not to get a headache when you eat a ton of ice cream. If it makes you feel good you could pray for Royce. In the mean time why don't you try to muster up some humanity and feel for the guy or at least not talk **** on him.
Wow really cause if you give up mentally and throw in the towel then you already accepted defeat. So you have to show mental strength to fight through anything whether it be a sickness, a love one passing or just trying to make it to the next day. Therefore you have to determined to beat something....and where does determination come from MENTAL STRENGTH...go read up on definitions before say something so asinine again
you are ignorant my friend ... mental disorders are real.... you need to do some study and read some books my friend.... i put a link for you.... True anxiety disorders seem to have a variety of psychosocial causes; and may involve a genetic predisposition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety_disorder
So what you're saying is, if you make millions you're immune to all disorders/problems? Outstanding analysis. Do yourself a favor, live a little and experience more, maybe read a little, hopefully learn something and then maybe, just maybe, get back to us and start posting again.
Yes but I question the process. A big part of dealing with social anxiety and phobias is facing your fear, or "manning up", so to speak. So a good therapist would encourage him to go ahead to media day no matter how anxious he gets. Seems like he has been in treatment for a long time and if he was really getting good care, he should be doing much better by now. It sounds like they are reevaluating the care that he's getting. Might be a good time to switch therapists.
If I had millions in the balance, I would surely find a way to make media day. As a psychologist I'm sympathetic to the impacts of mental disorders, but you guys are making social phobia sound as untreatable as schizophrenia. It is not so much a biologically based disorder. The main treatment is to face your fear. Sure, easier said than done, but there is a lot on the line here. Anyways, I think people are making too much of this. Hopefully it's just a minor slip and it will prompt him to develop a better treatment plan.
a job is a job. u get paid to be responsible. i know he is ill, but pretty sure he can show up in camp and sit around.
I hate to say this...but from the Rockets standpoint it has everything to do with it. X number of draft spots and roster spots..a league with a salary cap....spending those resources on a player who doesn't show up for any reason at all is problematic. Obviously not showing up to media day won't kill the team...but if it continues to be an issue going forward, it's a problem. I have all the sympathy in the world for the guy, personally..no matter how it turns out for him.
million dollar cant buy everything, but sure is enough to prepare for media day or camp, at the very minimun, even if he doesnt do anything in there.
What exactly are you pretty sure of? Do you know what he is going through? Do you know why he missed camp? Read this guys TL he is tweeting about Royce right now. https://twitter.com/HPbasketball
If Royce has real problems, he shouldn't be on the roster. If Royce is just passive aggressive, he shouldn't be on the roster. Either way, he shouldn't be on the roster. Trade him, cut him, or kick him to D League, but deal with it now before it overshadows the first bright season the Rockets have had in several years.
Irrelevant. You said "it's all mental". Which means as long as a person has mental strength they can beat cancer. THAT is asinine.
You have absolutely no idea what he can and can't do, you're not in his shoes. I'm not making excuses for RW. I agreed that this should have been addressed earlier than it was but, for whatever reason it wasn't. For the people yapping not understanding what it is he goes through on the daily saying "money cures all ills" or "what I knew it" blah blah blah, give it a rest. The orginization knew when they drafted him that things like this may happen. Obviously the Rockets are all in and will do the best they can to support and help Royce. Everyone should just back off of all the negativity, especially if you don't understand the disorder.
Im talking from Royce's standpoint, not the Rockets...his illness has never cared whether he has 10 bucks in the bank or 20 million on the line...The fact that he missed media day clearly shows that he's mentally not close to where he needs to be. I was basically making the point that just because he has money doesnt mean that he should just be able to forget about any sickness he may have. Money is irrelevant in the matter.
I think White will not rejoin the team till they come back to Houston. A unfamiliar environment is a powder keg for someone with mental illness. I know from personal experience with a family member.
THIS! Also, despite how frustrating it is reading all these comments I am THRILLED to have Royce as a Rocket. I think talking about his anxiety disorder even in negative situations like this is good for everyone. Great chance to become educated about mental health. I have no personal experiences with anxiety & I don't know anyone who suffers from it personally but hearing Royce's story has driven me as well as my friends who I watch basketball with (who are all rooting for him) to learn more.
