always liked him, and he is tough. he just doesn't improvise or extend plays as well as some of the other top qbs. that's his weakness. i think kubes has got him in a nice groove where he can just go through progressions very quickly and just make a damn decision. so far looking great this year. if we can get the running game just a wee more dynamic we really will be unstoppable.

He's played well against mediocre teams and I don't think there are any excuses this season because this team is plenty talented and he'll play some good teams. Hopefully he stays healthy which is my concern but how many elite QB's have never won a playoff game?

Make sure you get as much mileage as you can out of that one. It expires in about 3 months.

the funny thing is a lot of the teams with an "elite" arm have terrible passing defenses. I bet once it's all said and done, the Broncos D will turn out to be the toughest of all the teams in our schedule. (2nd being the VIkings D)

Yes the term elite can be applied on the stretch of play. Schaub doesnt get the overall tag/badge of "elite" imprinted on him just yet cuz it has to be sustained a little more and into the important times. Some of it is due to unfortunate circumstances but thats just how things go.

I have no problem saying Schaub is an elite QB RIGHT NOW. The Texans are an elite team right now. Schaub an elite QB right now with it.

But Ol' Ben Ruthlessburgers in Pitt has been to 3 Super Bowls, won 2 and still barely gets called elite. Just to show that there's still a few more dues to be paid

Elite career? Nope. But as you said, elite right now.

Flash in the pan? Hope not.

same argument people always gave me about Peyton before they got to the SB (or won it). Such terrible logic to stand behind, yet so many do..

Steelers fans probably consider Big Ben to be elite. But ask everyone else and the majority would say no. Point is that I don't think we can label one of our own players as elite. The Steelers boards and ESPN will have to do that for us.

That's the single funniest thing I've ever read on here and it wasn't even a joke.

Peyton manning was taking a 2-14 team to the playoffs. I think the only true elites are brady, manning, brees, and rodgers.

The Bears and Ravens have pretty good defenses.

And how's all that "eliteness" working out for them this morning?

He's not elite. He's just proving what many have been saying around here. He's good enough to win a Super Bowl with the right team around him.

This team is stacked and Shaub is making accurate throws and playing a smart game. Just what we need.

They'll answer after they finish polishing their Super Bowl rings.

Or after eliting their way to a combined 6 & 10 record.

I respect that POV. It sure as heck beats a "yeah, but..." post.

I'm with a lot of other people (probably you, Shroopy2) - I'd love for Schaub to have a signature win; I'd love for him to play well in the postseason.

BUT... he has a career QBR of 94.5 (as a Texan). For some perspective: Eli: 82.6; Brees: 93.7; PeePee: 94.9; Brady: 96.5. He's not better than those guys - his resume falls to pieces against theirs. And I think he has raised his game these past two years and gotten better... But career-wise... he's hanging out in the same ballpark as the certified elites. The statistics bear that out.

And he's getting better on the winning front, too. He's now 36-32 as a starter, including 11 of his last 14, which followed a 6-10 season that we all now (I hope) recognize was the fault of an absolutely terrible defense (30-22, otherwise).

If he needs a sustained playoff run or three to cement his status, I'm OK with that. But he is, right now, an elite QB playing at a very high level.

The best thing I like about Schaub is his TD/int. ratio. How many int. did Romo have in MNF? Schaub may have that many in the whole season.

He takes care of the ball with the best of them. A very under appreciated quality in a QB.
