Although I think Diaz is a pretty good DC, I still don't understand how the hell we didn't hire Jerry Gray to be the DC last year. The guy was Texas great who proved that he could coach in the NFL at a very high level.
Welp, this was my first chance to watch the team this year and I was pretty damn impressed. Ash looked solid, but he really needs to work on that deep ball. The WRs were making the plays tonight, but against some real CBs and Safeties, those deep throws aren't going to cut it. Running game was outstanding. Defense looked pretty solid for the most part, but somebody has to show these corners how to keep a hand on the WRs on the deep routes so that you know where he is at all times. Moncrief made them look pretty foolish tonight.
Good game by the offense. I was happy to see Ash actually be comfortable enough to throw down field and he's improving as the games go by. Mike Davis finally took the cinder blocks off his wrists and he's making catches! WRs were actually able to make some plays now that Ash was throwing them the ball. The defense...was impressive at times. I am disappointed by their lack of concentration through the whole game. They gave up way too many big plays and seemed out of it when the game was clearly in the bag. Even though we could score at will on them, they need to have the attitude to want a complete shutout. I hope they'll bring that attitude when we play a big opponent.
He was hired as a secondary coach. Gray has HC aspirations. The guy was an elite DC and secondary coach in the NFL that was a Texas legend. He has to coach behind DC from Miss State and Middle Tennessee? That is reason he left to be a DC of an NFL team.
Offense looked downright explosive, including ash, and that is HUG? Ole miss may not be good there's legit talent on that team w legit speed so being able to drop 65 is impressive regardless. The defense..... Agreed w whoever said the defense had would have a fantastic If they only attempted to wrap up instead of going for the big hit. It was clear that they let up as the lead grew and Diaz needs to get all over them for that... They could have easily held the rebs to <17. The talent is there, though. Hopefully hicks is okay.
You can't hire manny diaz, then 8 days later fire him because Jerry Gray decided to go back to the NCAA from the NFL.
