LOL yes. 26 carries a game would equal 416 carries over a 16 game season.That would be the most since 2006 when Larry Johnson hit that number on the nose. No other player has hit 400 since. (no other play has done 400 this decade. A couple of people got close to 390, also suffered burnouts like Larry)
I'm not worried at all about Foster. Slow start against Miami (26 carries, 3.0 ypc), but they had an underrated frontline that gave our blockers fits. Rightside in particular were thrown into the fire. Game 2 was a simple matter of Jacksonville being completely overwhelmed by the run game. (28 carries, 3.9 ypc). If you get 4 yards a run, than you keep on running until they stop you. Foster-Tate-Forsett combined for 219 yards that game. Game 3, 25 runs at 4.2 ypc. Last Year: 21 carries per game at 4.4 ypc. I'll agree that Tate should probably cycle in more to keep both guys fresh, but Foster seems fine. I'm much more likely to attribute the slight dip to the retooled line than Foster. titans have a decent O-line and we don't want Johnson to have a breakout game, so run the ball down their throats until they prove they can stop it, eat up clock, and win the TOP battle and the game 24-3.
4-0! Glad we didn't blow out Denver, now we know the team will be playing at a high intensity throughout the entire game.
So far this year, they've been very good in pass blocking and weak sauce opening holes. Chris Johnson has been mind bogglingly god awful. They've also been pass heavy, sporting a crazy 72:28 pass:run ratio.
Foster's got 29 touches per game, when counting both carries and catches. Last year he averaged 25 per game. 29 is a lot, considering how these games so far have not been that close.
It'll even out. He had three 30+ carry games last season. Kubiak's not that dumb to overwork Foster and let Tate go to waste.
I'm fine with Foster's carries going up. He has relatively low mileage on him. We bought the cow, now it's time to collect the milk. If, by the time Foster's contract is up, he's right where LT was once he left the Chargers (i.e. over 30 and mostly used up headed for the HOF), then that is fine by me. Keep Tate's touches limited and try to resign him relatively cheap in the early part of next season. Smart business move all around, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the team's success.
I'll be the first to admit Foster is not showing the typical MVP - like performance he has shown before,. . . but his numbers and runs have gotten better each game. I think Foster is a rare workhorse type that the carries won't affect him like other typical RB's. If he can handle 450 carries this year due to his unique ability to avoid bad hits, and supernatural endurance...then I'll take the 1800 yards rushing with 18 TD., numbers I feel he has a shot at without harm to himself.
I agree with emjohn that it will ultimately even out, but I don't think you quite get what kind of pace he is on right now. Tomlinson never got close to 416 rushes. His highest was 372 in 2002 and then he never eclipsed 350 again. 416 is a major burnout risk. 416 is the all time single season attempt record set by Larry Johnson. Only five men in NFL history have had more than 400 attempts in a season. With the exception of Eric Dickerson they were all worse the next year. You start browsing through the list of guys who even eclipsed 380 and you see every player except Dickerson, Walter Payton and Edgerin James had a noticeable drop off the following season.
We also gotta start looking at post season touches too. Foster's gotta be ready to run, and run stronger, in the playoffs too; less likely after 400 touches. Same problem for Ray Rice, and I think Cameron running the offense through "I'm elite" Flacco is a way of saving Rice after 2 seasons of ~350 touches.
Call me maybe, but I don't see Foster's pace slowing down. Foster will have between 416 and 450 carries. We are playing for a no. 1 seed this year, so every game will need to have production. Kubiak even hinted at that a few days ago when he said that Foster is different as he gets stronger late in the games and later in the season. The defense will give Kubiak the strategy excuse to run Foster because we will have several 20 point leads, and Foster is the RB that can take that amount of carries even if he doesn't deserve to carry that much.

You guys are counting carries and catches right? No way he reaches 400, or even 300 rushing attempts, with that much talent behind him. MJD's 343 attempts came from losing Jennings to IR and Gabbert seeing ghosts on every pass play. This is the ideal plan for most of us I think. And seeing someone like Michael Bush who showed good talent with a featureback load get under 4M is a good sign. On the other hand Tate should get a lot more than that because of age and less mileage, and he's better anyways.

Whereas a lot of those young quarterbacks will get away and they’re just going to run with it. He’s kind of a double threat there. He’s a good looking young quarterback.” (on protecting leads late in games) “Unfortunately, this last game we said, ‘Hey we’ve got to play deeper and stay back,’ and then they hit us for a touchdown. We talked about that during the game. It should make it easier. I don't feel like this team is built that way. The players are focused, and have their ultimate goal in mind, no matter the result of the previous week. If we just execute our plays the way they are drawn up, defenses will struggle to keep a wrap on all of our weapons. Defensively, if we continue to play hard and fast, the sheer talent on the roster along with Wade's scheme will make it very difficult for offenses to put up large amounts of points. We really are the most complete team in the NFL....from coaching all the way down to the players.
