I think that was the point in casting that part. Ving Rhames or some other huge intimidating guy would have been too obvious.
Sick opener!! I tend to agree that it was odd that Gemma trusts a stranger with her son's freedom (life?) but I can see where she is a bit confused/hurt from what Clay did and Jimmy Smits is sort of that dude that showed up at the right place at the right time for her. I thought it was awesome how Tara is fully channeling the old Gemma and Clay is now channeling Piney (oxygen tank and all). Damon Pope's bodyguard is just a scary dude. This really is the best show on TV and it isn't close.
Who knew what really happened b/t Clay, ope and piney besides Jax, gemma, and unser ? I can't remember if anyone else found out... I can't wait for the next few episodes: (Tig/Kim Coates interview) http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/09/11/s...oday's+Latest)&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher I think that last scene where he buys ice cream for the kids was trying to show his "human" side...perhaps he'll turn out to be a better casting for the part as the season goes on. Probably to show he's falling for her, so he wants to do her a big favor.
The character just feels kind of familiar to me.... <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/15195franchiseicon0005.jpg/'><img src='http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9714/15195franchiseicon0005.jpg' border='0'/></a><br> I could be wrong though. Must have been one hellva a one night stand. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it as a whole, these are more nitpicks.
As long as the Companionator is not a federal agent in disguise, I think I'll be OK with Jimmy Smits' new character.
I guess tonight was proof that there was almost no possible way that they were going to top the opener. There's always one or two of these in every season...almost like a hour of them doing paperwork. Spoiler Seemed like a long way around getting them to county. It felt like they could have done w/o a lot of that. Maybe it's things that will be important in some way later...like seeing Nero's son. Other than the very brief car chase, very little excitement in this one. I do have to say that I very much enjoy Smits as Nero. I've always been a fan of his...since LA Law. I even enjoyed the one season of Cane.
well they did set up some things for the reast of the season....opie coming back, Nero gains credibility/trust from Jax, gemma and tara "make up", and so on...I didn't mind it so much. Most shows know when viewers are hooked, so they'll throw a change up to extend the season. I wonder who that guy is at the end, with their marriage license...hmm....Nero connection?
Spoiler He was holding the birth certificates, etc that Clay mentioned were stolen from the house when Unser got jumped in his safe. I believe that was one of the Nomads they had just let in the club in the 1st episode. It appears they're the ones behind the attacks. I'm wondering who they're working for...either Pope, the Mayans or even the CIA....or that's the set up for season 6.

Ditto, could kind of feel it coming the whole episode. Get the feeling it won't be the first this season.
