I swear to God and johnny Thunders I saw The Slits at a Club in Houston called 'Spit' way back <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wrLMm5d6lqg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Nice, especially with Beefheart. I enjoyed getting a rise out of you because you seem so passionate about your hate with pitchfork (which I can understand). But I am here to tell you, you go watch Grizzly Bear live and you won't be calling them a "mediocre" band. But I will really be impressed if you like Sun Ra, The Residents, Sun City Girls, Tom Waits, and Can.
yep manny is a good little music fan. he likes all the critically acclaimed stuff, don't mess with him.
So, Grizzly Bear is just that one band I never got around to. I mean I've heard "Two Weeks" and stuff but haven't really listened to an album. Finally sat down to listen to Veckatimest the other day but I didn't get to finish (don't remember why). But what I listened to (a little more than half) wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away or anything. I suppose I should give them more of a shot. Don't know if I should start back on Veckatimest, start with Shields, or with Yellow House. As for what I've been listening to lately, found this new band called FIDLAR. They are incredibly awesome and fun to listen to. They only have like 2 EPs and a couple singles out, I think their debut comes out next year, but pay attention to them. Already getting a lot of buzz. Can't wait for the debut.

the new how to dress well album is dope, and by dope i mean it makes me feel like i'm on it. that's a good thing by the way. and manny, it is HIGHLY recommended by pitch****, so you're allowed to like it. kiiiiiiiiding manny, don't be mad, i like pulling your chain because you are so damned earnest. i love that you love music, that's awesome. hope all is going better for you, keep up the good fight.
Not really feeling a good buzz from 'How To Dress Well'. Kinda bumming me, but I will try to like again later. In too good a mood just now. gary, I was listening to Perfume Genius again today and it hit me why I liked it right off and what it reminded me of - <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/whGWmXLhQ9c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
win, i don't really know gene, and i'm not really getting the brit mope rock vibe you're feeling, but good music always has many different portals. the way you get in determines how you feel about it because at that point you're kinda looking in the mirror.
as far as how to dress well, yes, it's bleak. did you like the new swans record? portishead3 is brutal, i love it. have you heard of beak? i think it's one of the guys from portishead. everyone i've played it for says it makes tham want to kill themselves. i think it's beautiful.
Perfume Genius has some decent material but on the whole he reminds me of a poor man's Sufjan Stevens. Actually he has a much whinier sound like Chris Garneau. I saw Perfume Genius open for Beirut last year. I think in Athens, GA. He was ok, but nothing impressive. No bonus points for the awful title of his new album either. That being said the indie gods bestowed great blessing on his new album despite that.
don't know chris garneau and not a big fan of sufjan. to each his own. he seems really young, perhaps he has grown as an artist since you've seen him. anyways, all i know of him is this album. i've been listening to it for months.
I dunno, I'm aware of those bands and am listening to Swans right now - so dissonant it is hard to like at first (or even after a few listenings, now) but I can see there is something good going on, just not sure i will ever be down. Maybe i will go listen to the byrds now Hey thanks for this - "the way you get in determines how you feel about it because at that point you're kinda looking in the mirror".
