The passage you quoted was referring to Alabama, not Notre Dame. ND's offense needs a lot of work --- but their defense is damn strong. They've held Michigan State and Michigan without a touchdown, despite starting a secondary of mostly true freshmen. Their front seven is pretty damn good.
