14%. This is the guy who thinks his taxes are too high, not yours, since you've already gotten enough help.
He also apparently deducted less than he could have in order to overpay tax so the effective tax rate would look higher.
averaged ~20% in FEDERAL taxes over past 10 years. does not include state taxes. primary means of lowering taxes? charitable giving.
from their mouth to your post: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Romney deliberately overpaid his 2011 taxes so that his tax rate wouldn't contradict his public statements on the matter.</p>— ThinkProgress (@thinkprogress) <a href="https://twitter.com/thinkprogress/status/249204277229256704" data-datetime="2012-09-21T17:51:44+00:00">September 21, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I think it's hilarious that Robo-mitt the Plutocrat thinks 14% is going to resonate with the masses and make him look like a regular Average Tax-Paying Joe, while 9% is a no go area and Ann wants to be First Lady REAL bad so that Rafalca can prance on the Lawn. . Hahahahhaa. I love this guy so much.

So... Is THIS little math wizardry what took them so long to do the return? About charitable contributions: Nobody ever doubted that Mitt gave a lot to charity, particularly given his Mormon tithing duties and the fact that he has been running for president for at least 6 years (for Pete's sake). In fact he may be a perfectly charitable guy all his life, doesn't mean he isn't and out of touch plutocrat who pretends to be someone else but will likely serve plutocratic interests above all. Whatever he donated doesnt make the 47% comment go away.
In 2008, Romney earned $23,425,316 and paid $412.18 in federal income taxes. This calculates to a federal tax rate of 0.0018%.
The smoking guns are the 2010 and 11 ones. The 2008, 09, whatever ones are the atomic bomb crater in the New Mexico Desert
I'm guessing most of that is to the Mormon church, some of it mandated via tithing. So, pardon me if I take umbrage with this liberal use of the word "charity".
