Patience, young padawan. Mine didn't take long to download... downloaded in about 10 minutes, installed in about 15 more. DONE. I'm not liking the maps. I quickly went and put the GOOGLE MAPS app on the phone.
Thanks to everyone who replied about the Verizon/AT&T cost differences, although I'm still trying to figure it out. I hate AT&T, I really do, but what I heard from the person I talked to (and have a hard time believing. Heck, I had to explain some things to her) is that I could keep my old unlimited data plan with an extra $15 a month for each phone for LTE. Was anyone else told the same thing who has that plan and a 3G/3GS? I remain skeptical. I just don't trust that company, which has caused me grief in the past, and my previous company was Verizon, which I had no problems with. Since I missed the early order window (nailed it last time and got the phones the day they came out), I'm taking my time about ordering. Argh!
yup if you browse over to macrumors.com there is a thread about AT&T preorders. Apparently a lot of people who ordered earlier than myself has the status show up as back ordered while my shows shipped. I'm not complaining but it does suck for those that ordered earlier than others. For those of you that ordered thru at&t check out this link for your status http://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status

Wondering if it is worth switching to Verizon. Right now my bill is about 170. Two iPhones with data plans, 2 messing plans and my dad’s phone which is just a 9.99 a month charge. Is the service with Verizon that much better than AT&T? ATT has been alright with me. There are times when data seems to be crawling. I have just been with ATT for so long. One perk is work pays for my minute plan (for all the phone since it is shared) my data and messaging. I pay for my wife and dad’s 9.99 bill plus my wife’s data plan. How does Verizon do their billing?
I should have specified WHY I don't like them: the traffic layer isn't downloading fast enough... how am I going to decide to stay on the main lanes or hop on the Toll Road on the Katy freeway?
Verizon's 3g is deathly slow. You would think you wouldn't be on 3g that often with Verizon's 4g LTE coverage but on the outskirts of HOuston and indoors I spend a lot of my time on 3g and i hate it. Of course it doesn't helpt that the Galaxy Nexus from Verizon has a weak radio.
Mine says shipped! But it doesn't have a tracking number and I can't find it on UPS or Fedex with the reference number. I hope it really is shipped
Look, I understand your point, but you're generalizing quite a bit. My UNINFORMED, NON-TECH SAVVY mom chose an Android phone (over the iPhone) and used it for 2 years. She only used one home screen (all the others were empty) and didn't know how to do anything with the phone. She kept bugging me to teach her how to do things with it. On the flip side, I am an EXTREMELY INFORMED, TECH-SAVVY person, and I chose the iPhone (multiple times). Not all iPhone users are iSheep. Not all Android users are basement-dwelling Arduino tinkerers.
the maps suck monkey balls. that's about all that sticks out. i really wonder what they count as 200 new features...haha
I've had products ship and not be able to track them with the tracking number. I don't know what the deal is, but if it says your product has shipped, it has been shipped. The tracking services I think just aren't always reliable.
I am pretty sure Apple is just not making all of it's supply of the new iphones available for sale to drive up the demand.
You can keep your unlimited data with AT&T for no additional charge. In order to keep it you must purchase in store (not necessarily at an AT&T corporate store, just somewhere with face-to-face help, i.e. Radio Shack or Best Buy) so you can forget about ordering online.
wtf, i have to go talk to people to keep unlimited data? can't just do that online? I'm buying this **** mid october.
I still have my unlimited data plan with AT&T (I am happy with it) and I purchased an iPhone 5 last week through the Apple website and I kept my same plan. When you purchase through Apple, it asks if you have an existing account and with what company. At that point, they request all of the info about your account.
You can do it online, you don't have to go into the store. It should give you an option to select the grandfathered LTE unlimited plan when you're making your purchase. Shouldn't have to go into the store.
