I know McHale as a good player with tons of post moves who helped the Celtics win those titles, also know him as a terrible manager who set the Wolves franchise back at least 10 years. He did stepped in to coach the Wolves in the middle season, but that's not under the normal circumstance, so it's hard to evaluate him as a coach based on that experience. His only real coaching experience was with the Rockets last year. Based on what you have seen so far, what kind of a coach is him? A strategist, an offensive genius, a hard-nosed defensive minded coach? Thanks in advance.
Can't really say that last year can be used as a metric as he had never coached these group of guys before and only had 8 days to prepare them for regular season. On top of that, the schedule was so hectic last year that no coach had enough off days to make adjustments. IMHO, next year might be better time to ask to this question.
I have heard "uptempo, lots of pick and roll" Old-fashioned guy who stresses hard work on both ends of the floor to lead to success.
Could someone please find a video of Clyde obviously identifying the high pick and roll? I could use a lul right about now :grin:
I'm not an expert on coaching, but it's a discussion board so I'll throw out m thoughts anyway. He seems stuck in time. He knows that shooting the ball close to the basket is the best way to score points. However, I feel he still would prefer to throw it into low post versus having the ball brought into the paint on the dribble or a cut. He seems to think it is better from low post since there are less steps involved. With current rules, I think driving and cutting to the basket are the best ways to get ball close to rim for scoring opportunities in today's NBA. The benefit wings get on foul calls is too great to pass up.
I what comes out of his mouth and i also liked the fact he wasnt afriad to bench players for following his philosophies. I think this year will give a great indication of what kinda coach he is. If we can push .500 which i know is a little bit of a homers point of view i think he will have done a great job. Addedd to this his work hard in every facet approach will help our rookies develop a positive attitude to hard work which can only be a good thing. I just hope he has the skills to teach them well skills as well as work ethic.
