their fantasy rankings have him in the top 30

    http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/basketball/fba/story?id=8268520

He's 2 spots behind Carmelo and ahead of a few studs....look at this list

    john wall
    steve nash
    paul pierce
    tony parker
    Iguodala
    Steph Curry
    Eric Gordon
    Greg Monroe
    Amare Stoudemire
    Manu Ginobili

Now I know it's just fantasy and factors in the fact he hits a ton of 3s, get lots of assists, and hits a high % at the line but STILL. Jeremy Lin is going to be the focal point of our offense and ESPN sees him at #80....dont get me wrong still love the lin signing for many reasons including the global presence he brings us while we rebuild the next few years AND the bonus massive expiring in year 3....but wow ESPN is basically predicting an all star season and a jump into the top tier for Gogi

The only PG they have ahead of him are

    Chris Paul
    Deron Williams
    Rondo
    Westbrook
    Lawson

So theyre saying a top 6 pg.....still think our $30M+ offer was too much?? OR did Morey's lowball tactics bite us this time....just something to think about, saw this today

It was not about the money. The sticking point was the player option for the final contract year. PHX was willing to do that. Rox were not.

I often wonder — Phoenix, and any other team paying attention, knew the Rockets do not offer player options unless they are signing a superstar. Was this their version of a poison pill?

I don't know about this list. They have Rose 1 spot ahead of Lin. Parker is at the way bottom. Parker & Nash is better than Gogi. Also, Wall & Jennings shouldn't be that high.

Fantasy basketball is not real basketball.

It's about the stats that one will put up. Dragic will have ample opportunity, and should be expected to post impressive stats (at least that's the line ESPN is taking).

Parker is terrible in fantasy basketball because he doesn't shoot enough 3s, get enough steals or even get a really high amount of assists.

Wall and Jennings SHOULD be that high because they do those things.

I think Morey made the right move, but these rankings do nothing to support or refute that assertion.

First, ESPN's recent rankings gimick (based on court play) had Dragic at #83 with Lin at #78. I put little stock into these rankings as well, but at least they aren't for fantasy purposes.

Second, fantasy has so many different factors that it can't be any sort of reliable indicator of actual talent or value to a team. For example, having Dwight Howard on your fantasy team means that you have to punt the FT% category completely and thus his rank/value is below other centers (Love, Bynum, Jefferson). Furthermore, players that are dominant in one category and have very little value elsewhere (i.e. Serge Ibaka in blocks) are over-valued compared to real on-court presence.

I don't see how OP was bashing Lin at all. He was just offering a fantasy perspective to the Dragic-Lin debate in an otherwise slow news month. I mean Lin's text to Chandler has been the biggest story out of the Rockets for the last month...

No one is bashing Lin, Lowry and Dragic are simply better players.

    Fantasy basketball wise it works.

Both Lin and Dragic have shown they can fill up the stat sheet if given enough play time. With both teams not expecting to be any good, they're both going to get TONS of play time.

Rose is coming off of ACL surgery so I don't think they'll rush him in minutes or anything.

Lin was playing pretty well before his injury. I hate the misconception that he was playing bad. He wasn't putting up the same numbers when he was the first option but he was a big contribution to their 6-1 record under Woodsen right before his surgery.

How ESPN ranks him changes nothing. No use regretting any decisions that were made now. This is our team--I'm excited to see how these young guys grow.

Still feel best about Gogi's chances to turn into an all star out of the three guys. But it's pretty close between all three and I can understand Morey's logic about not wanting to give Dragic a player option.

Man this team would be in BAD shape if the Knicks had matched though. (But maybe that would be a good thing?)

I hope no one minds my asking: Who shows more facial expressions and emotions on court - Dragic or Derrick Rose? Dragic looks quite stoic to me in the games I've seen him start.
