Republican Party has evolved into something very dark

Sorry to bump this thread. I forgot about it. I would just let it sit since I have no idea what glynch is trying to say, but I just want to say two quick things:

First, I don't consider Paul Ryan or Rand Paul a hero, nor anything close to it. To suggest that I do is somewhat insulting. I respect Ron Paul as a person, having met and talked to him a few times, but I don't know that I would call him a hero. He has educated many people, and that is to be commended, but it's not like he did anything like Bradley Manning - a truly heroic act.

And secondly, libertarianism isn't hard to understand. It is based on one principle: that violence (or the threat thereof) against innocent people is ethically wrong. From this (the non-aggression principle [NAP]), all of libertarianism can be derived. All non-libertarians hold that either A) violence against innocent people can be justified or B) states do not use violence. Now, both A and B are plainly false, but that is another issue for another time.

I like how you phrase that but the problem I can see with that is that is also the same principle for true Communism as laid out by Marx and Engels. Under that view the state would disappear and everyone would contribute and provided to their own needs and abilities without coercion.

While it is a great sentiment I think the problem with that view in both cases is that it defies human nature.
