Don't worry guys. Global warming is just a sham perpetuated by liberal scientists to try and make the hero job creators pay more taxes.

Gitmo still open and global warming melting ice all over. Jeez, you'd think the Republicans are in charge of 2/3rds of the government or something.

Just because it's really happening, and we're really causing it, doesn't make either of the following true:

    (a) models predicting what will happen going forward are accurate,
    (b) the best solution is to make drastic changes to our lifestyles rather than trying to engineer a solution that reflects the fact that the developing world is not going to accept hitting the pause button on their own development.

Yes, it's too late. I agree with you here.

There is only one solution. Fusion power. But, to do it in time to head of rising ocean levels, we'd need to develop it in 10 years, not 50. and to do that would require a global project of every country contribution - a trillion dollar project or more.

Somehow I think that the U.S. is incapable of leading the world in the state we are in - the democrat - republican divide will be the falling of this country.

That's a ton of ice melting. How much has sea level risen due to the influx of melting ice?

I blame Matty Ice, and his recent hot streak.

We are cooked. Most models suggest that what was, a few years ago, a bad scenario of +2 degrees by 2100 is now likely. I'm thinking that by that time, the history books will damn us severely and the election of 2000 will be more prominent for what course was not followed.

By the way, if you follow it at all, it is almost too depressing to think about. A slowly developing crisis that requires countries to make decisions for the long-term, powerful companies to completely retool, and a high level of international cooperation is the perfect storm. And we are in it up to our eyeballs.

sea level doesn't rise directly from melting Arctic ice very much since it's floating.

What is scary about this is that ice, because it is white, drastically cools the earth. A white surface reflects light which when absorbed becomes heat - like an ocean. So what will happen is it will result in warming of the planet even more, and result in release of methane gases as well that were trapped in places in the polar regions. This can lead to a positive warming feedback - if we are not in one already, and could see a significant rise in tempertures....which in turn, can melt the ice on land which will definitely raise sea levels by feet.

An ice free arctic and warmer Atlantic waters could change Atlantic circulation leading to England to become snow covered. Which I think is why global warming was changed to global climate change. Models are useful but not accurate.

Or something like this could happen. Or this.
