http://sports.yahoo.com/news/seattle-arena-investor-now-shop-232353687--nba.html Who do you think will relocate? Will they get an expansion franchise? Most likely Sacramento will relocate, since they don't have an arena deal that's viable. Hornets aren't relocating.
The Bobcats should relocate. I feel bad for their fans, so just put them out of their misery already.
well there are 30 teams in the nba today, 15 and 15 in each conference. But before the Bobcats there were 29 teams, 15 in the east and 14 in the west (New Orleans was in the East) So I could see Seattle getting a new expansion team. That would be a lot of fun! Seattle Tropics!
Wait, so do they have to keep the Sonic's moniker? Kinda like us and the earthquakes of San Jose? I'm happy for them regardless, but now they will become what they hate.
has there been a change? i have only ever heard that he would let the next seattle team use the sonics colors/name.
Didn't they make the playoffs like 2 seasons ago? And I thought everybody here considered tanking and being worst a good thing.
They way city hates him and has made it public I'm sure he has could easily just say **** right off. Wouldn't put it past him
I heard the bobcats might relocate to Chicago and have 2 NBA teams there.. MJ is trying just rumors though.. could be false
It has to be Sac. But I know the owners don't want to sell the team so thats a problem, but cali has too many teams.
That would make 0 sense. Bulls already a historic Franchise. What fan in Chicago would ever switch allegiances. You would have to spend money on an arena. Mj doesn't spend money. It would never happen.
I seemed to remember Seattle got to keep the Sonics name too. This article from back then says "...in the wake of the city's $45 million settlement that leaves Seattle with the Sonics' name and history, but no team for the immediate future." So I think if Seattle gets a team they have the right to call it the Seattle Supersonics and keep the team's colors and history too. They just need the team though...!
Its the same way Anaheim can shop for an NBA team. Or how Kansas City can. Or how Los Angeles has options to shop for an NFL franchise. They can put themselves in position to absorb in a team, but doesnt mean its likely any time soon.
Actually, it makes a lot of sense. The biggest markets in the country -- New York, LA, and Chicagoland -- are so big that splitting the market with another team still gives you a bigger base than going to a smaller city. The Bobcats or Kings moving to Chicago or an LA suburb would be a big step up financially compared to Charlotte and Sacramento. It kinda sucks for the character and competitive atmosphere and democratic nature of the league, but the owners want to maximize dollars first. So, I wouldn't be surprised.
why dont we just split all the teams up between New York, La, Chicago and Miami; being thats all the "people and the media" care about anyways...
To my knowledge he doesn't. He owns the titles, the history and the wins, but the name is still retained by Seattle. http://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Sonics-are-Oklahoma-City-bound-1278241.php It's a shared past BS situation.
