OK, but they weren't trying to hide their design flaw and make money off of it like you suggested. But I don't wanna stop you from hating on Apple, though, so yeah... they were trying to make money off their own design flaw and weren't paying for free cases for all of their customers.
I think this is one example: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/14/verizon-galaxy-nexus-lose-google-wallet/ With so many different phones, all running different versions of Android and with different update schedules, its hard to know what you're getting, what will work on your phone, when things will stop working, etc without doing some research. And with the different phone companies each customizing the Android a bit differently, each phone works a little differently. It's the fragmentation issue - that has benefits in terms of faster improvements and adoption of new technology, but also drawbacks in terms of simplicity and ease of use.
This issue is so overplayed. Just like how apple supports one line e of phones, the iPhone, Google supports one line of phones, the Nexus line. If you want timely updates with the latest and greatest version of android geta Nexus. Its that simple.
I loved the Galaxy Note, but I think Major is right about fragmentation. Android is much messier than iOS. I am sick of the notification spam I get on Android. Plus, after the upgrade to ICS (Android 4.0), the dialer and contacts stock app on my Note stopped working, which renders the device pretty much useless as a phone (everything else still works...). By googling this, I could see that many others had the problem as well. It has been like that for several months, and they have done absolutely nothing to fix it. I don't think this would ever happen with an Apple device.
The phone in the link was the Nexus - and people lost access to the Google Wallet app, also created by Google. But even so, that's exactly the point - this means the vast majority of phones out there aren't directly or fully supported, which is something that isn't really clear to the average phone-seeking customer.
My understanding is that is on the manufacturer and/or service provider. Google is obviously making updates and such. But then HTC, Samsung have to take those updates (which they can't keep up with) and put their customization over the top of it, test it, then give to the carriers. They then want to test as well before it gets pushed out to the consumer. For older devices, and by older I mean, not very old at all, they just don't get the attention that the brand new devices get. Why would the manufacturer care? They have your money from the device. The carrier is the one that is still getting money from your contract right? I dunno, I'm making assumptions, never looked into it. I just custom rom it up when it's stable and enjoy.

Yup, pretty much lol. Even Canadian versions of the Nexus don't get timely updates. Only the yakju and takju versions do. (Both GSM) Honestly I think skinned Android phones are becoming an issue. You have beautiful phones out there like the One X and S3 line only to be ruined by running ICS. Jellybean is so much of an improvement I almost hate ICS in terms of performance.
I am not hating on Apple. I am on my 2nd iPhone. 3GS..and now the lovely iphone 4. Maybe I like conspiracy theories..but I just find it very interesting that Apple decided to introduce a product like the bumper (their first case I believe) the same time as the iphone 4 which has the death grip issue..and guess what solves that problem..oh ya the bumpers. Giving away 3 dollar bumpers was so gracious of them when they make at least 300$ per device.
That's why I always simply put... Android is for the more tech savvy people who want to different things with their phone, and the iPhone is for more people who want a smartphone but also want simplicity which is your average consumer. Nothing really wrong with it, each has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's a matter of preference... just like between Windows and Mac.
Oh really?? Then why can't my brand new Galaxy Note 10.1" tablet run Flipboard? Google Play tells me that the app is "not supported" on my device. What BS.
Well that's an issue with Verizon isn't it not Google. BTW if you have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus and no Jelly Bean that's your own damn fault. The Galaxy Nexus is the easiest phone to root and install a 100% stable jellybean rom.
I see a lot of people complaining about AT&T's reception but they are usually using the iPhone 4, which was flawed from the beginning. My 4S has great coverage with AT&T and I haven't had an issue. And I have a work phone on AT&T LTE that I can say the same about. I don't know what the issue is.
Just upgraded to the Iphone 5 from the 3GS, and also upgraded my dad's line to the free Iphone 4. I'm definitely going to feel a big difference coming from the 3GS. Pretty excited.
Just caught the delivery date of oct 5. No biggie...but I dont understand how apple consistently undersupplies launches.
I'm not sure what happened here (normally, it takes about 24 hours for them to sell out, as opposed to the 1 hour this time), but this is a pretty standard and effective marketing technique for any company that can pull it off. Anytime you create limited supply, it has an effect of increasing hype and satisfaction - it's the same as the concept of "limited edition" shoes and other things. The risk you have is if people turn to Android or other alternatives because they don't want to wait. For example, if the delay takes them past the release of the new Nokia phone or a major Android device, I think that would be potentially more problematic. But that doesn't seem to have been an issue for Apple in the past. If other manufacturers were smart, they would have made an effort to have their premium phones ready in the same time frame as iPhone.
Seeking some advice. So like I said, I'm upgraded to the 5. But my dad phone is old and so I upgraded his to the Iphone 4 b/c it was free with the upgrade. Since it requires a data plan, he accidentally chosen the $30 3G dataproplan. I don't think he will use much data, can I switch it to the lowest like 100-200mb or something like that or will it charge me for the month at the time of the upgrade? I can't do the shared data b/c I have the original grandfather plan of $30 unlimited data. Thanks Damn man still says pending from ATT.
