Not sure if that is what I expected Lincoln to sound like.

Quality team created this movie.. Looks like it will deliver.

I always imagined Lincoln with a deeper voice than that ... nitpick, I know.

It's very Illinois. Knowing DDL and his method ways he probably listened to the oldest recordings of Illinois accents the Smithsonian had.

I also expected a deeper voice because his last two American period films his voice was deeper and grittier. I'll still watch even though the Spielberg touch is getting rather bland and dated.

Me too, but since there are no audio recordings of Lincoln, nobody really knows what he sounded like. He looks like he would have a deeper voice.

Movie seems pretty hammy to me. Script sounded crappy.

    http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie...-daniel-day-lewis-presidential-234902598.html

"In spite of the fact that Lincoln was a whopping 6-feet 4-inches tall and strong, his speaking voice was higher and more shrill than that of politicians who dominated the American landscape back in the 1860s, according to leading Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer"

so apparently his voice was higher...i was just as confused as everyone else when i first heard it but it would make sense.

I get the feeling that this is going to be a huge bomb.

The only thing that matters in a movie like this is the script.

Especially since DDL seems to have gone out of his way to NOT give audiences what they are probably expecting. It may be technically accurate, but if it is jarring and annoying, it's ain't gonna sell to the cheap seats.

But the script is the thing.

If it pushes a dishonest ideology, audiences will know, and it will tank.

But the trailer looks like it is using modern sensibilities and filters superimposed on a world that existed 170 years ago, and that won't work.

    So we'll see.

Aren't you the guy who gives negative feedback on all movies, anyway?

    Nope, not at all. :)

And really, how much feedback can you give from just a trailer? It was just an impression.

Hollywood has been tone-deaf for years, and I just worry that this one will turn out to be more of the same, that's all.

Writings from the time period claim that he did not have a deep voice.

If I hadn't read some of the post about the voice I wouldn't have even thought about it while watching the trailer, hell I was half expecting him to sound like Mike Tyson or something. Movie looks pretty solid, I'll be watching it.

My history teacher in 7th grade always did this Lincoln impression real high pitched and weird. For a big guy he had a horrible voice. I've always read about it being like that too.
