A 3 INT pace is *not* middling; the other numbers are impacted by blow-outs and sharing the field with a runner/running game 1,000 times better than any the 4 QBs you listed have ever experienced. It just floors me that, in the midst of a terrific run by him - interrupted by an injury most people believe cost the Texans a higher playoff seed and greater chance of making the Super Bowl - that this debate is *still* happening.
A lucky bounce here or there and maybe the eagles make it to the superbowl and not the packers. Vick had taken his team to the conference championship. He is being paid like a top 5 qb. Top 5 qb can carry their team to the playoffs. I think he would have been great to sign at maybe 12 mil/yr.
Fair enough - the INT pace is not middling. But you're trying to have it both ways, saying his numbers are lower because of a great running game, but trying to credit him for 5-0 and 33 pts per game, which were in large part due to a great running game and defense. The debate happens because both sides take ridiculous positions. Detractors unfairly criticize him, but then defenders make claims like the idea that no one is playing better than him. The silliness happens on both sides.
The team had a shot to chase a top 10 QB this offseason in Manning. They just would have had to take a chance on his health and find something to do with Schaub (the latter could not have been too hard to do). To be fair, I didn't feel too comfy taking the risk on Manning but we did have a chance to land a stud QB this summer.
No, they didn't. The NFL has a salary cap. You don't just 'find something to do' with Schaub. That's like saying we should go to the year 3086, we just have to figure out what to do about the space-time continuum.
Im not going to sit here and say Schaub is elite. He is an above average QB and he gets the job done. He is not the sexy pick when it comes down to it but he is what will help us win at this point in time. If our defense stays solid and he just manages the game they will do just fine. Anyone remember a guy named Trent Dilfer winning a championship in 2001? He literally just managed the game. he let Jamal Lewis run all over the place and his Elite D took over the game. He had only 153 yards and 1 TD in the superbowl but everyone else did their part to win it. You don't have to be a stud to win a superbowl since the whole team has to show up on Sunday. It does help to have a guy be able to throw and not have them crowd the box but he doesn't have to be elite. Our defense is good but not on the level of that years Ravens D. But other than that we have a decent shot. Schaub > Dilfer Foster > Jamal Lewis D < Ravens D Foster and Jamal is a very close call. End of the day we have the makeup to win a SB if they just manage the game correctly. I have no problem with Schaub as the QB.

Game managers don't lead the league in passing. I agree with the last few posters..that schaub ranks in the 9-12 range. No one is saying he is brady or brees. What I've said is that being the leader of this SYSTEM, he can achieve everything those other qbs that fantasy geeks like to masturbate to have achieved. Schaub, Foster, AJ, offensive line(hopefully right side gels)= Glorious run. Enjoy it.
Maybe it came off wrong but I am saying that he is better than just a game manager. But even if he only did that we would be fine.
My few thoughts on Schaub in regards to this thread, which unfortunately got trolled by one poster. 1. QBs are paid much better relative to other positions because you can't find good ones in FA. There are inevitably pro-bowl or near pro-bowl caliber players entering FA every year at other positions. But pretty much never happens with QBs. If Schaub becomes a FA, one team with a horrible QB will give him a big payday. 2. QBs are more or less irreplacable unless you've been grooming one, ala Phillip Rivers or Aaron Rodgers. Even if the Texans know they'll get Rodgers or Brees with their 1st rounder next draft, that QB will not be performing at an elite level with this current group anyway, so you still have to pay Schaub. 3. People rank top QBs based mostly on the postseason team play more often than not. I think Schaub can put up his usual 250yrds/1-2tds/0-1int/90ish passer rating game with the Texans going to the Super Bowl, people will start putting him in the top-5. In the end, QBs get too much credit with team wins and too much blame when the team loses. Schaub is judged similarly. Until then, his ranking is basically ???? because no one knows his postseason yet.
It blows me away reading this forum sometimes. We could be on the cusp of witnessing the greatest football season this city has seen since the Luv Ya Blue days. Maybe even better. This team was a healthy Schaub away from reaching the AFC Championship last year - something not done in Houston in 33 YEARS. Now Schaub is back and we have people b****ing because he's not "elite" and he makes too much money? Unbelievable. Did anyone care in 1978 whether or not Dan Pastorini was elite? Or how much money he made? We as Houston sports fans should really know that when the good times are here, ENJOY THEM. Because, as we see now with the Rockets and Astros, they don't last forever.

No he wouldn't--because Schaub would have suddenly, magically been labeled "elite". Therefore he could win thereafter. Because he already won one. But he wasn't elite before that...but only elite QB's win Super Bowls, so he was going to be one. But it couldn't be predicted. And he wasn't declared elite before that. But ubigred predicted he would be elite because only elite QBs win Super Bowls and he won a Super Bowl so he is elite so he had to be elite so he was elite..
He would probably discount it by pointing out how many non-playoff teams were on the schedule. Because the Texans are the only team in the NFL that play non-playoff teams.
