When I was growing up in Alief I didn't think it was that ghetto. Now watching that... damn what happened? Maybe it was always like that but too naive to notice.
It was kinda ghetto. It's really bad now. A kid from our community was murdered not too long ago. Some of yall probably saw the story. Another couple of youngins I know got robbed at gun point when they were walking back from the gas station (Bellaire and Winkleman).
Lived in the SWAT until just a year ago so I have experienced both prosperity and security living in Katy in my childhood years and the ghetto experience from my teen years to my college years. My siblings and I went through AISD. Yup things are ghetto as hell, and for the most part its an apartment wasteland. I'm Pakistani so I can say that there is also a good Pakistani/South Asian population there. For the most part You don't bother them, they don't bother you. Since I got married, I moved out to greener pastures but my parents and younger siblings remain and recently my mom and dad both had guns pulled on them by little teenagers. Praying that they eventually get the means to get up out of there.
Kingwood in da house. Either they don't know, don't show, or don't care about what's going on in the hood.
I'm sorry. This is no rap video. This is an award winning documentary. Learn some respect and have some patience.
I kind of hated it at first, but it got better and semi-inspiring at parts towards the end. As a white kid from Pasadena, I learned that it's very important in The West to "know what people mean" and/or are "saying" and to "feel them" often - sometimes at the same time. Having said that, I'm still not sure I understand the difference between a gang and a clique.
I clicked on 15 random spots in that video and every single time within two seconds or less someone said "y'know what i'm sayinnnnn"
From what I gather you can belong in a national gang (blood, crips), but a clique comprises of people you grew up. In other words a more localized "gang" that crosses gang ties. Sorta like a high school class will have an alum in all sorts of colleges. I'm not sure how that works out without repercussions. Are there no Hispanic gangs pin the southwest, or more likely the director didn't have access to them. Loved that one sneaker clique had the token white guy, Hispanic and Asian guy.
Back in 2003, I remember postin up at club t-town, there were southwest cholos. And roxy on Saturdays can be asian deadly night.
Grew up in Alief almost all my life. I didn't mess with any body and no one messed with me, it's that plain and simple. This **** just makes me laugh how far they take it.
spring branch bear for life, essays. good guy gang since 1993, come at me! why can't we declare gangs as terrorists? It sucks that hard working people can't be safe and have to deal with the constant threat of being shot for wearing a texans jersey. We can take out countries, untrained biotches who handle their guns sideways should be a piece of cake.
