That depends on how good the prosecutor is. Their criminal history may not be relevant as it would presume that Renzo somehow knew who they were and what their history is. All that Renzo has is reasonable suspicion that he was under threat. The problem with that though is that once he starts hunting the other guy down the threat goes out the window.

So cute. Mayhem, the drug addict found naked in a church, whom Dana White kicked out of the UFC, trying to be relevant. Unfunny douche.

Funny as hell actually, his past isn't relevant in this.

That is true, chasing the second guy in his car was not a smart idea, should have just kept on hitting the first guy until the second person returned.

Obviously, we just have to go with what's based off of his tweets (which like many says, doesn't exactly incriminate the alleged muggers) but keep in mind the dude barely knows how to speak english and there's only 140 characters that can be utilized with each train of thought. So it's not like we should expect a full book report on the situation. If two dudes follow you for blocks and blocks, something is up.. period. With that, your adrenaline, mind racing, and Renzo barely able speak/type great english, it should be understood that (although a dumb decision, yes, but) his mind isn't going to be putting much weight into how exactly he reports the matter at hand.

So JUST because he doesn't literally include in the tweets, "dude went for my wallet as the other one went for my wrists"... doesn't mean him beating up two innocent guys is the go to answer and they weren't muggers.

And about him getting sued??? Chances are these dudes were two degenerate junkies who don't even know who the Gracie's are and just picked the wrong dude to fluck with. They probably never even heard of twitter and don't even know that they are famous.

I'm not saying what he did wasn't dumb, but being someone from Brazil and being around aggression his entire life. I'm sure you learn to have a 6th/spidey sense for tension and knowing when you're in danger.

He didn't live tweet the mugging because they were trying to mug him.

Obviously there was a gap in the tweets when the guy grabbed his wrists and he kicked the shet out of them.

I know it's only a hint, but my question to you is: would you leave your buddy behind if some psycho jumps at him after being asked for a smoke?

IF I had to put my money on something, I would bet that he was really drunk.

    This story is awesome.

I'm glad he didn't get shot, and that would be the inspiration for any MMA trainee not to pull off the same reckless thing.

But this scenario happens in big cities at night, so I don't feel sorry for those two dudes at all.

You don't ask random people you walk behind for a cigarette in the dead of night just for a cigarette. You just don't.

Good luck being his lawyer and using that as an explanation.

The photo he took looks pretty clearly like it's from the NYCHA projects around 25th st (if his initial geography is correct)...not the most dangerous ones in the world, but nothing you need to walk around at midnight by yourself unless you're looking for trouble, which apparently was what he was doing.

I'm totally willing to believe that these two guys were muggers and he probably waited for them to make the first move too. He doesn't tweet it, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. But, it doesn't matter. Even though these two guys were criminals engaged in a criminal act, his response was all out of proportion and way overboard. It was more vigilantism and sadism than it was self-defense. The mean streets of New York are not the mean streets of Brazil. We have lawyers here looking to sue everybody.

The 2 degenerate junkies probably don't regularly read mmafighting.com. But, then neither do I and I heard the story. If they don't run across it and figure out there's an opportunity here, someone will see the bruises and tell them.

Of course, it is quite possible (maybe even probable) that he started the story with a true altercation, and embroidered it. If they don't have all the bruises we expect from the tweets, he might be okay. And, these guys may have other crimes they're wanted for and don't want to bring attention to themselves, or a document status that can get them deported, or whatever. It's possible nothing comes of it. But, it really totally could too. And if a suit does come, his limited English and his growing up with violence in Brazil aren't exactly going to play in his favor.
