The trailer was uploaded to YouTube by Sam Bacile, whom The Wall Street Journal Web site identified as a 52-year old Israeli-American real estate developer in California. He told the Web site he had raised $5 million from 100 Jewish donors to make the film. “Islam is a cancer,” Mr. Bacile was quoted as saying.

The video gained international attention when a Florida pastor began promoting it along with his own proclamation of Sept. 11 as “International Judge Muhammad Day.”

 

Technically the embassy is considered US soil and an attack on an embassy could be considered an act of war. This issue though on the surface appears to be more of a failure of the host countries to provide adequate security for the embassies as by treaty they are obligated to protect diplomats.

Action is happening as a special Marines anti-terrorism force is being sent to Benghazi to beef up security at the embassy. As far as a response back since neither attack in Libya or Egypt was endorsed by the respective governments it's highly doubtful there will be some military strike launched against them but their may be a call for reducing aid or other sanctions unless they improve security.

The timing may be coincidental as the video has just been recently translated into Arabic.

 

This just shows how intolerant Muslims really are. Don't look at Muslims, they might think you are disrespecting their religion and pop up with rocket launchers ready to bring Jihad to your ass.

 

I'm starting to believe and understand why some countries need a dictatorship.

 

This just goes to show that followers of a certain ideology don't even realize how screwed up their coordinates are. They even automatically assume that others would react the same way.

I'm actually surprised that that crappy movie supposedly cost $ 5 million. I can't even believe that. Try to watch it without scratching your head after 2 minutes.

I wonder how many of those protesters have even watched the trailer? They probably wanted blow stuff up.

Why didn't the Lybian police do anything, and to think we helped them overthrow their dictator. What was the point?

 

I just heard on the news that the attackers might not have known that it was the US ambassador they were attacking, not sure if that would've stopped them. Also that other Libyans took him to the Benghazi hospital. According to the doctor that tried to save him the ambassador died of smoke inhalation and a stomach wound.

 

That video lead to the death of the ambassador.

Two thoughts:

1. Chris Steven was a trade lawyer in the DC before joined foreign service. He taught English as Peace Corp volunteer in Libya earlier. So I believe he walked away from money and followed his heart. He is now killed by the people he helped with. Awful, just awfule.

2. If there is anything bad about Youtube, maybe this is an example. Maybe censorship could have prevented all this. Why should a guy in Californina be given a forum to provoke middle east to hurt US's interest?

Few comments on this tragedy...

1. Seriously some people are really idiots when it comes to inciting other people. The maker of the film should have just used common sense.

2. Obama's response/ or lack of is just mind numbing

No one is justifying anything

It is tragic and horrible that the ambassador lost his life. I feel sad for his family and those families of the others that were killed but that is the truth.

 

Well, not sure if the mob involved were royal to the old regime. I couldn't find any reporting on that. The NY time piece says Chris Stevens was highly regarded by the rebels for his supporting of their causes.

 

What should his response have been?

 

No, it is not the truth. It is you displaying a lack of understanding.

You do not understand the difference between causation and motive. They claim that the video was their motive. That is completely irrational and based on their screwed up ideology and hate. Even if it was in any way rational, it would still not be the video that "led to his death". There were humans making a conscious decision to take actions that ultimately caused the ambassador's death. Whatever idiotic connection they make to what angered them does not mean that the video "led to his death".

Yeah, so the Diplomat killed just KNEW he was going to be ambushed by rocket launchers all because Muslims are intolerant, and someone made a movie questioning their religion.
