If Harden is not extended, seems like he will be way up there as a guy for the Rockets (and many other teams, no doubt) to chase.

Let's not get our hopes up..from bosh, eric gordon, deron williams, dwight howard, iguodala, bynum and the list goes on for the morey fails. Sometimes i wonder if Morey did all this so that his fat face gets to be on all 'Houston Rockets' wiretaps. Soon it will be Harden because he's gonna lowball him for his market value and expect him to be interested?? Cmon..use yoru brain for once morey..every star or potential star being signed is OVER valued market price and not the other way around! unless u want to sign the likes of Dalembert or stromile swift at the MLE every year. -_-

You sound depressed, maybe you need to get your hopes up if this is a player you want.

I like Hardens game a lot .... But I have to wonder , is he the "Alpha Dog" or is he the secondary piece ?

I recall reading a while back that when Harden was forced to start , he found it difficult and was happy to return to his bench role .... That doesnt come off as "Alpha Dog" to me. And thats exactly what this roster needs ....

Now if you feel like Lin is that guy .... Maybe you make an offer to Harden thats difficult at best for OKC to match .... Otherwise , you better have something else in mind and Harden is the secondary piece in that.

He's also had the luxury of Durant and Westbrook taking the heat defensively while he just does his thing .... He wouldnt have that here and you have to ask the question - Is he as productive without them ?

This. Free agency is a trap this year. The top guys won't come here. The next tier guys might, but they don't really fit this team's core & you'd probably have to overpay to get them and with RFA studs like Harden there's just no chance they won't get matched if they hit the market.

Gotta go the trade route & rebuild through the draft. Take on bad contracts if you have to. Turning this team around is going to take a while regardless.

    We'd have to overpay.

For goodness' sake, can't we give Lamb a look first?

No true franchise player(see playoffs) and will get heavily overpaid. Rather gamble on Lamb or land a true franchise guy.

Screw it. We need to tank for 4-5 years straight, amass dozens of top 10 picks and then re-enter the competitive scene.

We need to get to the point where we say to teams "10 1st round picks on the table. Now I dare you to send him to LA/NY."

he doesn't get me hard like durant does. Harden not a franchise player, which is what we need.

He would choose Dallas over Houston, but it won't stop Morey from trying (and failing, again). The Rockets have to build through the draft.

Pheonix is another team that would be interested I believe. His mom lives there or something like that.

Valid points, he is a valuable secondary piece. No need to give him the max,IMO.
