I have been posting in D&D for almost 10 years...I took an active interest in politics after 9/11. Prior to that I was non-aligned. I was pro-Bush I, then voted for Ross Perot in my first election I could vote, than Clinton in my second. In that period of time I have drifted from the right, to the left, back to the middle, and now back to the left.

I use to respect many Republicans. Guys like Alan Spectre, Dick Lugar, Olympia Snowe, Lamar Alexander, Mike Castle, and many many more - gone. And so many moderate Republicans are under attack from the Tea Party. I use to think that the Republican Party was a party that was pragmatic and about efficiency. That a lot of great ideas and solutions came from Republicans. The cynicism wasn't there. Now they are all gone, moderate Republicans is becoming an oxymoron.

Now today. I am fully convinced that the whole purpose of the Republican party today is to serve the interests of corporations and very rich individuals at any cost. And this is going to ultimately lead to the downfall of this country.

Because even if Dems win this election, it only delays the inevitable. Against all that money that has been unleased, there is no way the Dems can keep up..not without further selling their souls to corporate interests and in turn become a true mirror image of the Republicans.

I think ultimately, A republican will have the presidency and both houses...maybe in 10 years...but when they do have that power, they will recklessly enact short-sighted policy that will benefit the rich and their agenda while throwing the rest of the country under the bus.

It's truly a sobering and dark reality.

If the demographic trend is to be trusted, Republican party of today would not be able to survive in 10-15 years (white vote alone).

There is a reason why scales are often used to depict democracy. Sometimes scales tip one way or the other, but eventually is goes back the other direction. Eventually people will figure out one way doesn't work and swing back the other direction.

I feel you. I voted for Perot twice because of the deficit, then Gore because I thought Bush was stupid, then Kerry because I thought Bush was stupid, then Obama because McCain was stupid to pick Palin as a running mate. Every time I try to vote republican in recent years, the party brings stupidity into the equation and I have to vote the other way. Reagan and Bush Sr. would be considered a moderate these days and would never get nominated. Obama has essentially been a 90's republican the last 4 years, and the GOP keeps calling him a commie.

This is how I feel about the GOP these days because they really market to the lowest common denominator.

For some of the conservatives on this BBS, I can agree to disagree. With Commodore and napalm_black being two of them. And then there are those that I just am completely baffled with their views.

I know a lot of people will disagree but tallanovar is actually someone I'm not baffled with either. I can kind of understand where he is coming from in terms of his political views.

And then there are guys like BigTexxx, Basso, and Esteban that just shout out the party line as loud as they can in hopes of convincing everyone that they are not vacuous propaganda machines of the GOP.

When you have that much money, you can do a lot.

Change voting laws to favor whites middle class Americans - they failed this time, but may succeed in the future.

Use tons of money to influence through voters earlier and earlier - the day of a billion dollar ad campaign isn't far away. And expect candidates to start getting massive ad buys even during the primary season.

Use tons of money to help bring voters in. Republicans can outspend dems in get-out-the-vote efforts.

Embrace Latin American community. The kock brothers will likely drop the immigration issue in order to get more latin american voters. Take away the immigration rhetoric and I think a lot more latinos would vote Republican. They screwed up on this one so bad this year.

I agree that commodore is probably not a troll. But they are still pretty much on the radical side and see liberals as their enemies - not people to compromise with.

I'm going to be honest. While I consider myself a Republican ( my actual ideology, however, is another matter of debate), there's a lot about the radicals that annoy me, as I've made clear.

But it doesn't compare to sanctimonious self-righteous leftists who can't accept the idea that maybe Americans aren't interested in what they're offering and whine "corporate money" in a manner which reminds me of the GARM after a controversial foul call. Especially so since despite this massive influx of corporate money, the polls between Obama and Romney have not really changed and I'll be the first to admit that Romney has been at a disadvantage. If anything, Romney has tacked more to the left in the general election as evidenced by his recent comments on health care.

Furthermore, Republicans don't believe in the Evolutions.

Maybe the science kind, but not the monkey kind!

I think the main hope to avoid this are 1) the gradual rejection of trickle down despite libertarian/market fundie talking points as more and more money flows to the 1% and the 99% suffer more.. 2) the rise of liberal media to cut through the previously nearly unchallenged propaganda of the right.

Previously you had large parts of the electorate fed Fox proganda with only the mainstream media with their desperation to appear balanced even if one side had no evidence or just flat out lied. For example "on the one hand you have some scientists who believe in man made global warming and some others who don't" Of course no need to mentionn that it was 99 believing and roughly one percent who didn't with half of those funded by oil interests with an obvious economic conflict of interest.

On the pessimistic side with such tremedous money it is always easy to invent new distractions to replace old one like gays, mosques at ground zero etc. that go stale.

It's low quality, low information threads like this that are ruining the D&D. Libs, police your own.

No need. As soon as Barack takes term 2 and you go back into hiding we'll only have the troll cage left and the circle jerk will continue with SamFisher supplying Jergens for all.

Your party is controlled by a few puppet masters like the koch brothers and Grover Glenn Norquist

Mitt Romney and others are their puppet.

Social warfare is their wag the dog. Their distraction. Your party is a farce of what it once was.

It's the sadest time for Republicans in modern history.

Yes, ever since the presidential race heated up, 3 or 4 posters here have been extreme, desperate posts, which fall inside some alternate reality. Its been sad to watch.

I worry about thier emotional well being after Obama is re-elected. After all, how could such an extreme left wing socialist, muslim, dog eating, technology ignorant, non experienced Obama get re-elected with such ease?

I am going to post this here as it seems more fitting. I guess I shouldn't be surprised the blatant hypocrisy of the Republicans condemning the President over a foreign crisis, even before all the facts are known, when during the GW Bush presidency they were blasting those who questioned the Iraq strategy unpatriotic.
