you agreed that Schaub is good enough to get us where we want to go...i.e. Super Bowl. what's the problem then? so Schaub can't get it done. what's the alternative?
They just need to sign one of the freely available elite QBs walking the streets. I don't know how this idea escapes so many GMs.
Macalu, you said Schaub being is debatable. I am saying it is most certainly not a debate. He is NOT elite. The elephant in the room...The last "non-elite" QB to win a Super Bowl, Rob Johnson in 2002. The Buccaneers had one of the greatest defenses in history. I think the offense is set with the demotion of Kevin DonnyMost Walters. Jean gives more flexibilty to the offense and makes the defense have account for other outside of AJ in the passing game. The defense is going have to really really buckle down to make up for Schaub's lack of being elite. To win a Super Bowl: P. Manning E. Manning Big Ben Brees Rodgers Super Bowl Appearances: Matt Hasselbeck Jake Delhomme Donovan McNabb
I didn't escape John Elway. How lucky are those Denver bastards! And btw, I'm not saying I hate Matt but it would have been pretty cool to see the Texans try to talk to Payton this offseason. Still glad Schaub looks good and healthy.
I think my issue is what you have here. You're saying that a small set of data tells you that you need an elite QB to win a Super Bowl. And then you present 3 non-elite QB's that have made Super Bowl appearances. If you can get to the Super Bowl without being elite (3 out of your 8, since you group Big Ben into elite), but you can't win it...then you're basically saying those 3 non-elite QB's lost the Super Bowl purely because they were outmatched at the QB position. That the rest of the team had very little to do with it I guess my point is, if non-elite QB's can make the Super Bowl, then it comes down to 1 game. A single game. Anyone can win a single game, and once you get there, it can come down to defense, running game, turnovers, QB play, whatever. So use the argument that only elite QB's have won the Super Bowl and then immediately show that non-elites have been right there just makes the argument very flawed
We got rid of Winston out of the blue to get a few million dollars in cap relief... Sure, we could have talked to him (and maybe we did), but Im sure the conversation would end as soon as Manning mentions he's looking for a contract in the 100 million dollar range. There is no way we ever had the slightest chance of signing Manning.
Last ten years is perfect sample size, considering shift towards offense in the league today(more reliance on the QB). Bold = But only the Elite win. Reality vs in theory. Chad Pennington+Foster+Andre+Kubiak+good line = Matt Schaub
he is kind of slow of foot. When he lined up at the cornerback position and safety position, schaub would always get burned by the receivers. He also sucked at running the ball, always fumbling at the goal line. He became an idiot kicker missing game winning/tying kicks left and right! Those teams you mentioned, green bay and new england.. yeah their defenses still led the league in creating turnovers. As for Schaub not carrying his team to victories, I think The Cat made a post with all his comebacks and fourth quarter stats. you can search for them. It's A TEAM game. How do elite qbs look against elite defenses? brady's game against Baltimore ring a bell? there goes that goldfish memory again. or peyton manning against the patriots in the early 2000s. You're smarter than that. Don't be so obtuse. To me, in THIS system, Schaub can do what any qb you cream to is able to do.. and that is being a leader of a top 5 offense. If that means shoot out with 400 yards, he can do that. If it means halting over agressive ends by handing the ball to foster, he will do that. It's called a BALANCED attack. Schaub throws for 4,700 yards..... Ubriged's reaction: " well, he has a hof receiver!!! schaub sucks!"
HOF receiver?? I'll leave that alone for now. Schaub is not in the same class with Brady and Peyton, so I don't know why you would bring them up. You said elite Schaub is not elite. To answer the question though , they just win. Yea remember Rodgers against the Steel Curtain in the Super Bowl. I remember Brady going into a 15-1 Pittsburgh and hanging 41 points on them. Pittsburgh had the best defense in the league. Brady did not even have a top 10 passing attack....41pts. Oh. P. Manning broke through against who? ....
This is just wrong..."only the elite win". You have 3 guys on your list that have lost out of 10 or whatever it is. Those could easily be anomalies. Or there could have been infinite other factors that make the Texans different. Or make Schaub different from those guys enough so that it matters As for your Pennington argument...now you're comparing guys that just aren't on the same level. Schaub is better than Pennington was
btw, no one was calling Eli elite until he won a Super Bowl.. and even then, they said he was lucky. It wasn't until the last 2 years that he really got that rep
well, last year, we were a play away in the two games of having a super bowl between Alex Smith and Joe Flacco? do you think those are elite? also the superbowl tampa bay, vs oakland the raiders QB was rich gannon, and nobody mentions him, so if had won the SB, they could have called Gannon a not very good QB that won a superbowl.
