I don't get what's so bad about it. There is no reason why he can't. He is in the right place with McHale as his coach. Two simple questions. Can he or can't he?
I like DMo as a 5, but he is currently too lite in the pants to defend centers effectively. Jones currently has the size, wingspan and speed to guard that position better than DMo. Of course at first, it will be from the bench , but maybe sometime in the future he could become pretty effective at the position.
Newsflash: Jones can't defend them well either. But neither could Scola last year. Jones is not going to be a five, period. He does not have the size or wingspan to match a Bynum, Howard, or Gasol.
Okay. BTW, your sig means nothing with a different team. Actually, it meant nothing once Yao retired.
If without acquiring another legit 5, Rox will be forced to try out DMo or TJones at center. There were many talented players who were forced to play the five and actually did quite well. Magic a 6'9" PG played the 5 when Jabbar went down on an ankle injury in Finals. Not only Lakers won, he also won the MVP by scoring 50. With that said, there is a slim chance Jones will ever be a legit center. Center is one of the most difficult positions to excel. Without college experiences, everything is stacked against him. LOL probably a good % of you posts were defending your previous posts. 10,000+ and adding up fast.....
What can i say? Most geniuses were deemed crazy at some point. Seriously though, last season, Scola played center a lot. Many times when he didn't even have to. Now, with players like Jones and White even, they can and will(IMO)do the same thing, but with much more effectiveness.
Different scenerio. Scola was a five-year vet who excelled at 4. First year is already difficult enought for any NBA rookie. If you force any one of the rookies to play at unfamiliar 5 position their first year, you are setting them up for failure and detrimental for their psychological growth and confidence. Patterson is more likely to back up Omer than any of the rookies. Play any rookies as a 5, it has to be under the right circumstances.
False: Threads such as this one, and "can Hill and Thabeet hold down the center position?" bla does not matter if Yao retired or not. And he was on his way retiring when you joined anyways. No excuses for your judgement day you set yourself.
Set myself? Looks like you are the one making excuses. So what, you are going to watch all of the players we used to have on the team? How does this work?
This is such a ridiculous post! but, if this would've been a thread....then you would've been on to something....
Jones might be able to be a midget, ultra homeless mans version of Dwight Howard. Basically nothing like Dwight.
No. Hayes relied on quick lateral movement and a strong lower base. Neither of which Terrence Jones excels in like Hayes.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WUAnC8mBaHM?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> eh definitely not lower body strength as the Chuckwagon. From what it seems, he is decent laterally (which is why I envisioned him as a big 3). But it is clear in this video that he cannot defend centers: a lot of down low post possessions were buckets for the other team or fouls.
If Bosh can play C, so can Jones - who's almost 20lbs bigger. We don't need him to play starters minutes at the position. He's probably a better option than Dmo at this point. Hopefully, that will change as Dmo adds size and weight. Here's what Friedman said about his post defense: "Opponents shot a shade under 35 percent from the field against him in post-up opportunities..." That's awesome. Again, he's a 4 that's versatile enough to play "three through five." http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/film-session-terrence-jones Rockets management believes it. Why can't you guys accept it?
I think clutchfans folks have a hard time accepting the new era of the NBA model where teams are becoming more and more positionless. Look at the Miami Heat just this year as a model of where the NBA is going. Dominant 7 foot big men who have the footwork of a professional soccer player are something of a once in a lifetime type of player for any organization. The Rockets have been fortunate enough to have 4 of those once in a lifetime big men. 5 if you count Elvin Hayes(who was 6'9" FYI). -I for one am excited to have 4 or 5 big men who can play the 1 through 5 position on the floor at any given time, and sometimes together. Its going to make for exciting basketball, and has the potential to be a very good defensive team as well. 6'9" guys who can handle the rock, rebound, pass, shoot, defend, etc. are the wave of the future. Its time to get rid of that old mentality of thinking where if you are this height you play that position, and if you that height you play that position. -Side note- also remind yourself that the Later Morey picks in the draft, typically the better he has done in recent years. Budinger was the best rookie of his crop, and Parsons did well as a later pick. You might be shocked, but I wont be surprised if Jones produces the best of his class as well. He has lottery talent no doubt, and can fit into any lineup right away just doing the little things. Dont be shocked when he's a contributor this year and the other guys aren't doing so great.
