I know it's a big deal, but my question still stands. Why not wait 'til the end of the season? And didn't they say that they don't negotiate deals DURING the season? I just hope they know what they're doing, because Schaub could go down any minute throughout the whole season.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Texans signed Matt Schaub to a 4 year, $62 million extension that includes $30 million in guaranteed money, as Houston's FOX 26 reported. Too much if you ask me. He is good , not great. I will say this though, it will be interesting to see him try to live up to the contract this season. We have games on our schedule with QB's who are worth that money and more. The compare/contrast shall be interesting in big games this year. Matthew Rutledge Schaub show me something.
I like it based on guaranteed money. The window for this team is 3 years max (age, contracts) so either they trade for a better QB than Matt (unlikely) or the draft one (very unlikely). They are going all in.
Does he run the offense to perfection? yes Is he smart? yes Can he lead the league in passing? yes.(i know some suffer from goldfish memory) Is it not always, With schaub they can go to the SB? Yes. Is he accurate? yes Can he make plays under pressure? yes Can he make plays if pressure knocks him on his ass? No(just like every other qb) What more do you want? Probably worth more. as for he can't stay healthy...15 games missed since 04(same as Romo, less than the male model) and i'm including when stomach flu knocked him out for a game.
Just really depends on how the contract is structured. Ideally, the real money is structured to make this a team-friendly contract (i.e. 3-year, $36MM contract) which would align with the current Texans' window. If Schaub stays healthy and delivers, he'll earn more, if not, we cut ties and have some dead money on the books as the salary cap escalates in the coming years.
not sure how I feel about this.. This could be a really good movee or a huge mistake... I like to take the ladder.. In smithiak we trust!
Great point. I'm good with the signing, Schaub is solid. I'd like to start looking for his replacement within the next couple of years and groom him ala Rogers in GB. I don't think Yates is the guy, but guess you never know.
Go look at average salaries for QBs, it's pretty much right in line with his performance. Rivers signed a 6 year deal in 2009, so naturally QB deals that come after that are going to be bigger. When Rivers signs his next contract in 2015 it will probably dwarf the deal Matt just signed.
