http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/16832379 Chimp solves memory test 'faster than blink of an eye' Ayumu the chimp can remember the location and order of a set of numbers in less time than it takes the average human to blink. The prodigous can solve the puzzle in 60 milliseconds, at Kyoto University, Japan. Ayumu is the son of Ai, a chimpanzee whose intelligence has been studied for over 30 years by Professor Tetsuro Matsuzawa.
Impressive. But, I don't think its a true memory test. My guess is that he can remember what the pattern of numbers on the screen looks like for a few seconds before that mental image fades away. I wonder if he could pass the test after several minutes pass.
I am ashamed. I request a mod to change the title to prevent further misinformation. Chimps =/ monkeys is important.
I guess there's different types of memory tests. If you look at something and then close your eyes, for a fleeting moment whatever you were looking at is still "on the brain". Its still an incredible feat that he can capture such a detailed image with only a glimpse. I was thinking more about memory tests where the subject has to store lots of information and then recall it at a later time (not immediately).
