Man...I appreciate that you're trying to fight the good fight, but why bother? When a person reaches gwayneco's level of paranoia, they're a lost cause. No external facts are able to penetrate. We're talking about a group of people to whom a market-based healthcare plan that originated from their own party and is similar to ones already in place in other free-market economies is literally indistinguishable from Soviet Communism.

Power, held by people who are irresponsible, greedy, and unreflective, is dangerous. In this sense, there is no real distinction between different types of power - only differences in degrees. The only thing 'good' to powerful people is more power. We are beset on all sides, and while many of us get caught up in the established political discourse of private enterprise vs. public government, a cursory glance at the lobbying and super PACs you mention show that discourse as an illusion. Like most of history, it's always those who have the most power exploiting those who don't have the same degree (excepting those rare uprisings - but even they have their 'leaders'). We get so caught up in this left/right dialogue - a vertical line separating the 'conservatives' and 'liberals' - that we fail to consider that the real dividing line is horizontal.

    Machiavelli:
Besides this, one cannot by fair dealing, and without injury to others, satisfy the nobles, but you can satisfy the people, for their object is more righteous than that of the nobles, the latter wishing to oppress, whilst the former only desire not to be oppressed.

Do you feel like you control the government more than they control you? Seriously. You vote every few years and you spend the rest of your time dotting every "i" and crossing every "t" to steer clear of them.

I know there is some benefit from some of that nonsense; we'll never agree on where the line should be.

I "belong" to both a church and a government, in your vernacular, and it is very clear which controls me to a greater extent. My "tax" at the church is totally voluntary, for one!

Living in America is pretty voluntary. Why do people have to explain the simplest of things to you? It's mind boggling.

Another prime, thought-provoking contribution from a defunct WNBA franchise....

    Actually, yes, I have.

I choose not to use those options because they don't work. The system itself is broken. There are a great number of people who are disenfranchised by lack of choices and a poor system of "democracy" that is everything but democratic. The Republican and Democratic parties aren't addressing any of the actual problems with government and society. Instead they're perpetuating a system that stifles competing ideas and allows the few extort the many for their benefit by using the authority of the state. There must be radical change to the structure of government on both the State and federal level if the people are to have any real say in government, and if we're ever to address the problems with society that are seemingly unaddressable today.

And we've all seen what happens when we give states too much power.
Some of the founding fathers didn't support Democracy either, why are we relying on them to make decisions for the present? History is extremely important, I'm not trying to say otherwise but we shouldn't be mirroring history step by step. Regardless of how liberal they were back in the day some of their ideologies are EXTREMELY outdated.

Probably the fact that you enter office on the bottom rung, completely powerless and you have pretty much no shot at moving up the ranks if you don't kiss the right asses. :(

Doesn't work if you aren't a Republican or Democrat. I'm not sure if you're aware, but those parties have established laws that make it very difficult for anybody on another ticket to be in serious contention without having very deep pockets. ;)

Another substantive post from a person that gets his facts from chain emails and facebook. Good job.

yeah its just like religion. both of these things are at its core created to help people.

and what happens??? the crusades and 9/11.

it would probably take a terabyte hard drive to store all the content if written out, of the negative things this country has done to other countries for its own benefit.

You have 17,000 posts, 15k of which are re-clarifying your absurd positions. People get giddyup fatigue from how exhausting it is dealing with your obtuse, intellectually dishonest posts. Troll on? Lol. Mmmkay...
