breaking on CBNC tv. non-farm payrolls up only 96,000, lower than expectations

    very disappointing number

    significant labor force shrinkage.

probably means we'll get QE3 soon

only because the labor force shrunk. This is not a positive headline at all. Only the uninformed or uneducated about labor force participation would call today's news positive

texxx why do you hate America?

Somehow I get the feeling that if we added 200,000 (ADP says we did) you wouldn't be starting this thread.

Actually a drop in unemployment percentage is a good thing as is another consecutive month of private sector job growth.

The numbers suck. Will continue to suck for years to come regardless of president.

I swear that yesterday I saw something that estimated 200,000 jobs added. Did I dream that?

Don't these numbers usually get revised down a little too?

That's the ADP payroll company numbers. They're not usually in synch with the household/employer surveys.

unemployment as a metric isn't great because of the fact that the denominator (which is the bottom half of the fraction, just so you know) only includes those actively looking for jobs. When labor force participation is the lowest it's been in 30 years, then the metric is less helpful

When people celebrate a .2 of a % drop in unemployment as if it was a proud achievement, you know that your country is in trouble.

what's happened is that you've got a lot of very hardened folks that are so emotionally invested in their political candidate, that their logic has become very biased. They'll try to spin bad news as good news, in an effort to convince themselves that their candidate is doing a good job. A classic example of bias.
