If you reduce the payments you are willing to make providers, how is that not a cut? People keep saying that it's a lie that Obamacare cuts the money out of medicare, but it does. Cutting the funds that are paid to providers directly impacts patients.

Now, whether or not those cuts are justifiable is another story, but they are cuts.

It's not reduction of payments. Future payments (out) of the Medicare Budget are going to expand, just not as much as without the cost caps. Oh, and btw the savings from payments are in large part being allocated to other programs in the Medicare budget

It's no more of a "cut" to Medicare than any transaction that Medicare decides not to enter into.

Calling a former president with a 70 percent favorability rating a good soldier is not good politics.

You do realize that the collapse in 2008 was not your ordinary little downturn?

OK, so let's have Romney and especially Ryan tell the nation that the $716 billion in "cuts" to Medicare are really cuts to waste and fraud and that old folks and disabled on Medicare will have not cuts to their benefits.

They won't do it because they were trying to deceive.

Now tell me that they were not trying to deceive the general public.

I agree 100%. This is exactly the point I was trying to make.

Yes, I do realize that. I also realize that it was many years in the making. And that Clinton himself had a lot to do with it, despite the free pass that he's always given.

Exactly. I've been ripping into Republicans a lot lately, per the usual, but since the speech I'm on a different wavelength.

Bush might have allowed the bubble to grow to the point where is was impossible to maintain, but Clinton's policies are what allowed it to even happen. The man was influenced by people like Greenspan as much as either Bush was.

Gramm–Leach–Bliley was one of the worst economic policies in our history. This sort of deregulating fiscal policy is at the root of what put us in these dire-straits. The fact that Citigroup was formed before this bill even passed was a testament to how confident they were in their ability to pass whatever law would be necessary to legalize the crime they had just committed. The Taxpayer Relief Act he signed seemed great, but the new deregulation of the financial market allowed those estate tax exemptions to be exploited, contributing to the early stages of the housing bubble.

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity continued the phasing out of the welfare system. The liberal who normally fight against policy like this just ignored it because the economy was doing well enough to hid it's detrimental effects in the short term. Obama has overturned a number of the provisions, but the damage to welfare is already done.

And finally, my favorite topic: Budget

The fact that he has the balls to run around saying garbage like this, and there are enough people lapping it up to keep him going makes me sick. While it might be accurate to say that Clinton delivered the first four consecutive surplus budgets in more than 70 years, his claim about reducing the national debt is a delusional lie. Decreasing the public debt is nice, but the trade deficit was raised for nearly ever dollar that went towards public debt. Plus, that increasing of our trade deficit also involved outsourcing record numbers of jobs overseas that helped kill our manufacturing industry.

**** MAJOR PARTIES. If our election process wasn't already garbage at that point, Ross Perot likely would have won the election. Not that he would have been a great president, but something might have actually changed...

Hill's overseas, Bubba shows up at the DNC, and Sandra Fluke needs birth control.

    Coincidence?

Journalists are supposed to be impartial and report news. The fact that they can't do that these days is what has given us Fox News and MSNBC.

I can't believe that in the Democratic party you can be considered important enough for a prime time address just because you went before Congress and demanded that other people pay for your birth control.
