The words God and Jerusalem were not in the original Democratic platform. A verbal vote was held to add God / Jerusalem to the platform. Even though the first round of verbal votes the no's seemed to equal or even outweigh the yea's more votes were taken until they were added. The verbal vote was passed with a 2/3 majority. Thoughts?????

That's not quite accurate. While, yes the word "God" was not in the platform (we're America; free to name our god anything we want). There is a section on faith and how that applies to the Dem platform:

"Faith has always been a central part of the American story, and it has been a driving force of progress and justice throughout our history.
We know that our nation, our communities, and our lives are made vastly stronger and richer by faith and the countless acts of justice and mercy it inspires. Faithbased organizations will always be critical allies in meeting the challenges that face our nation and our world – from domestic and global poverty, to climate change and human trafficking. People of faith and religious organizations do amazing work in communities across this country and the world, and we believe in lifting up and valuing that good work, and finding ways to support it where possible. We believe in constitutionally sound, evidence-based partnerships with faith-based and other non-profit organizations to serve those in need and advance our shared interests. There is no conflict between supporting faith-based institutions and respecting our Constitution, and a full commitment to both principles is essential for the continued flourishing of both faith and country."

So please don't turn this thread into a "dems hate god" thread.

    Jerusalem?

Why would an American Political party platform single out an individual country?

I like how the major news networks all desperately wanted to drum up controversy (means more viewers, means more advertising revenue), so they picked this.

MC, I offered no opinion. There are a lot of atheist on this board who are mostly Democrats. I was curious how they felt about this. I think most people on here know how I feel about God.

As far as Jerusalem goes it has been in the Democratic platform before.

No attack meant, just wanted to put it out there that it's not like Democrats were saying no to God. Platforms change every election and are meant to be a snapshot of the issues important to each party. For instance the GOP platform this year has universally been referred too as the most radical in recent history. Jerusalem just isn't a major issue for Democrats this year.

Don't like either being put into their platform.

Doesn't matter. Still voting for Obama.

    HuffPo's headline: THE PUSHOVER PARTY

It's clear that the dims don't care for Israel. I'm shocked that many Jews still are clinging to their support for Obama. Many haven't.

and BOOING God? Wow, well done dims.

Not sure how any Jewish person that values the future existence of Israel could possibly vote for Obama. How many times will this voter get kicked in the face before they finally switch over?

Why should we responsible for another nation's safety? Don't you Republicans care about shrinking the deficit? O that's right... you would cut funding to education before ceasing sending money to Israel.

As someone who believes in God, and is a Christian, I'd love for God to be out of the platform of any political party.

I honestly believe you that Dems don't hate God. I just got done reading a Facebook exchange where two Republican friends threw hyperbole around about this exact topic.

But there is a lot of this going around:

If Dems don't hate God, God is certainly their preferred method of condescension towards conservatives.

Batman does not bash Christians; he bashes Christian’s hypocrisy in regards to gay rights.

    Thanks napalm

I get it. I really do, but even being an atheist myself, you'll never see me being condescending towards someone's faith.

There are better issues to belittle conservatives over. ;)

I didn't know God was a factor in running government. Seems like that's a problem.

I long for the day when idiots stop turning religion into an issue in politics. There is separation of church and state for a reason people.

Well, there are some widespread interpretations of another religion with a lot of followers that are easily much worse than what you claim is Christians' hypocrisy in regards to gay rights.
