His taco initiative has really gotten the Hispanics to the polls.
He eats a lot of tacos to support the Hispanic population.

ironic, the only thing bush II was right about was the GOP should start catering to hispanics. and if you look at a lot of first and second generation hispanics, they share a lot of the conservative values of the GOP so it isn't just a numbers play. its the one positive legacy bush II could have left and the one thing the the GOP ignored from him. what a bunch of clowns.

I thought he gave a terrific keynote address, one good enough to establish him as a future star of the Democratic Party. While I have no idea if his political career will lead him to run for President, I was impressed enough to say that he'll be the first Latino in the White House, assuming we get one there, and eventually, we will. I liked how he gave the speech. It's hard to connect with both a convention audience and the cameras. Castro did it with ease. I can see him being offered a cabinet post in an Obama second term, with a statewide race to follow.

this is what cracks me up. One speech that the dims consider good and he's ready for a cabinet post. Qualifications and experience are truly irrelevant to these guys.

This foolhardy line of logic in part explains why we have the clown we do in the white house -- because he can read from a teleprompter well (at times). It's actually simple psychology that many people are susceptible to bias if somebody can deliver a good speech. Immature thinking, that's for sure.

The on-going Republican meltdown continues. Hopefully, moderate Republicans can pick up the pieces after the coming election debacle.

I wanted to add that Deval Patrict was also outstanding, and I thought Kathleen Sebelius was excellent. Not as rousing, of course, but she gave measured and intelligent remarks.

Castro made some comments about Texas after the speech that was interesting. Basically with all of the influx of moderates from other states (read the north) and the growing Latino community, that Texas will be a purple to blue state within the next 6 to 8 years.

    Would love to see it

It's going to happen. The worm will turn. What we are seeing now is a desperate attempt to slow the inevitable by suppressing the vote. They'll continue to have some success, but the end not terribly far away, in my opinion. 6-8 years sounds about right.

That will entirely shift the Republican strategy.... California, Texas, NY and Illinois would give the Dems 142 electoral college votes by default.

Unless moderate Republicans take back their party, it's in danger of becoming marginalized. This country is not populated with an extremist majority.

I doubt all hispanics will vote for straight democratic ticket in 6-8 years. More hispanics are more aware politically and are going to vote in who shares their own values and not their skin color.

    Agreed.

What would be even better is a combination of moderation with the introduction of a viable and sensible green party.

Yeah, but who do you vote for when the party that shares your values rejects your skin color??

This just further illustrates how grossly incompetent and short-sighted the GOP is from a political standpoint. Black and hispanic communtiies largely share conservative values--at least regarding social issues--with the Republicans and could easily be brought into the fold... but instead, the party has chosen to be so vehemently anti-immigrant and xenophobic to the point of alienating nearly all minorities!

Any minority* who votes Republican is either ignorant of the hateful politics at play or is self-loathing at some level...

(A discussion of east and south Asians require a little more nuance, but I'll skip that for now.)

I agree, very well done, but somewhat lacking in substance. Struck me more as a "pretty face" than a serious political heavy weight. Not too many of them around anyway. I am still taken by C. Rice's speech.
