San Antonio is near 75% Hispanic. Tell me something useful.

He got about 55% of the vote when first elected. He got 80% in his re-election effort. That means he converted a lot of people.

Deckard, was there anything in particular he said which you were impressed with? or did you mean that he is good at giving speeches?

    Will watch later.

Liked the speech, but let's tap the brakes a bit.

There was another mayor of SA who I once thought was a comer.

Still, the demographic changes TX is going through are more favorable to Castro eventually establishing a national presence than what Cisneros had to work with.

agreed... i wasn't that impressed with Castro. But Patrick was fantastic. Told liberals to grow a backbone, something that has needed stating for a long time now.

Not to typecast, but it would be a nice redemption of Cisneros and Dan Morales, two Texas Democrats who were both very smart, charismatic and talented but undone by personal corruption. More than anything I think Castro should focus on taking back the statehouse for Dems at either Governor or Lt. Governor, then maybe a mid-term Senate run or Cabinet appointment if he's bored: he could have a nice, long, fulfilling career without ever dirtying himself with Presidential primaries.

Are you saying Hispanics vote for race over people who work for their interests in issues like education, protection, city services etc.?

I tuned in last night expecting great comedy at the convention and was not disappointed. How can anyone vote for this bunch of clueless and morally bankrupt people is beyond comprehension.

We have president Hussein so why not El presidente Castro?

I do business frequently in San Antonio and this dude is lame, he was elected solely on the basis of his race.

You lefties are trying so hard to change America but you just don't get it.

The only thing J'ai alai enthusiast Ted Cruz could beat Julian Castro in among Latinos is jai alai: the fastest sport on earth*

Well fortunately for the Dems only 3% of Hispanics are of Cuban descent vs. 70% of Mexican descent.

Looking forward to Texas flipping like California.

It is impossible for the GOP to keep being so anti-immigrant to appeal to one part of the base and to keep Texas.:)

Usually my mother hates on everything D, but even she was impressed by his speech. It'll be funny seeing the future of politics while both parties scramble to gain the Latino vote.

Both him and Rubio will be on their party's ticket in 2016.
