More simply put, Obama is running a Bush '04 campaign, while Romney is running a Kerry '04 campaign. Except Obama is more well-liked by independents than Bush was, and Romney is liked less than Kerry.

It's relevant because if the uncle were an American then Romney's health care plan would save the day!

Obama has a destitute brother in Kenya that he won't help, but tells us we have an obligation to pay for others' health care.

Maybe so but it won't hold up. Yeah Romney is awful but if the economy & jobs outlook remains weak, inertia will kick in by November and it will be very close at the end. Obama needs some good news to put any daylight between himself and Romney.

On the other hand, if optimism goes south Romney will pull ahead and win.

    Dead on!

I don't have to do any research to know that isn't true, or is some kind of twisted falsehood. You're better than that. Your view of healthcare reform is "Obama is telling me to pay for other peoples health care, grrr!!"? What happened to you, you were supposed to be the logical conservative, you were the chosen one! Oh well

The wrong Obama got elected. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Yes, half-brother, whom his father had after abandoning him and his mom without any contact. so now he is suppose to support them and every other relative after they surface and get paid six figures to write a book disparaging him?

After he wasted all the money from the book deal on drugs and alcohol in less than 4 years, Obama should send him more right?

And you compare that to our entire system. No wonder you guys sound like yo are smoking crack. you are.

Obama is a multimillionaire, yet won't help his brother living in abject poverty.

As Obama has said many times "I am my brother's keeper"

you don't know much about his half-brothers situation. clearly you are trying to tar the man by butting into his family life. CLinton had a half-brother too that he didn't speak to.

Seems awfully weird for you to be playing this game. sounds like you are being more TJ and BigTexxx here than anything else. We already have two of those fools on this BBS, don't become the next.

Not sure how one deals with a relative you never met has to do with national health care policy. The Dems never say everyone must share all their wealth with everybody, but that it makes sense to pay for certain collective projects in order to make a better country.

Why can't Romney go down and take some Mormons to help him. They might get 5000 points and convert a couple of them too!

I love that you want to judge Obama on this, a value you yourself don't even care about. Conservatives don't give a damn about helping their fellow man, it's all about what they built. You should be happy Obama isn't helping him. How Republican of him!

I think this campaign is unique in that there's not a lot that shifts voters' minds - people seem to have completely tuned out all the attack ads, economic news, and everything else. Beyond exogenous events that we can't predict, I think there are 5 events that can change the race: the 2 conventions, and the 3 debates. The GOP convention was Romney's best shot, and he punted on an agenda. The next few days obviously favor Obama, but if these same approaches continue (anger vs opportunity), the debates are all going to favor Obama too.

That said, Romney has a chance to change his approach, but I'm really not sure what his best move would be. He needed to present his agenda on his terms to let his narrative take hold with no immediate opposition, and that could only be done at the convention. If he does it during the debates, Obama will have a chance to pounce on the specifics - and the specifics of the GOP agenda are just not popular.

Yet the moment President Obama would reach out to help this brother, the right would assail him for putting a non-American's needs ahead of ours, question where the money came from (even if the point was moot) and push the "He's really anti-colonial Kenyan" narrative some more.

It all depends on which bag of tricks is heavier on a given day, I suppose.

Day 1 of the Dem. convention went surprisingly well for the Dems. I honestly expected the Rep. convention to be a huge upswing for the Rep. based on the supposed Obama hate the last 4 years... Instead it was a snooze fest with Ryan setting himself up to be crucified by spouting so many lies, and then Romney gave the least inspiring speech since Mondale in 1984... Really the most memorable events from the RNC was the sea of white people and a bizarre rant from Clint Eastwood...

A lot can change in day 2-3 of DNC, but it appears now that the DNC has more focus, talent and enthusiasm.

Romney has a lot of money to spend and the economy could get worse, but right now Obama has the advantage..

Michelle had an awesome and inspiring speech.

If the convention sticks to the facts (80% is generous), and lays out their plans, I'd stomach going out to vote for them.

Romney could even convert the president's dead parents. Triple lulz on that possibility.
